Current status for low hours....

Hi. I've got a CAA CPL and considering venturing over (have a Permanent Resident Visa) and happy to convert my CPL to CASA and fly for work or more probably just do a bit on the side of my day job at weekends/evenings(para dropping, glider towing, mustering, surveying). Just wondered what the current state of play is? I know how competitive and difficult the professional market is and this is more for the life experience. I was in Queensland the year before last and surprised at the number of opportunities particularly in that area - I thought the north west would be the only place to be with low hours. Any advice appreciated.

Unfortunately you may be best waiting till the economy picks up.

Come on over and give it a go. We are only a few months of changing the government, and that should give the economy a bit of a boost. The Aussie dollar has been steadily falling of late, so that will be in your favour as well

Lastly, most GA operators hire "johnny on the spot", so unless the knock on doors you greatly diminish your chances. North west Queensland would not be a bad start. WA is going pretty well also with al of the FiFO going on
Best of luck
Cheers Gazumped

I got a job with 260 TT this march. No need to wait for the economy. Pack your bags and go.

Deadcut- where and what do you do? I'm looking to venture out to Aus once I've completed Meir here in NZ.

Don't stress, just pointing out one example doesn't make the rule.
I know of a kid who's heading for a PA-31 endo before he's old enough to hold his CPL and probably going to be logging ICUS as soon as he is old enough.
Doesn't mean everyone's gonna get a twin gig immediately after their CPL though, does it?

Now there's a fine optimistic view. I'm putting my order in for 5 new Airvans right now!

Hey! Has anyone got a job or a way to gain hours with low hours when on their working holiday visa? Or do the companies want pilots only with permanent visa, citizenship? Plan to come to Oz for the life experience also, and since there are not many ways to earn hours where I am at the moment. Also got CAA CPL at the moment..
