Money Wasted by CASA

Catching up on some reading I came across this line;

The Civil Aviation Authority is spending about $50,000 a year on office greenery
Reference: Senate Estimates Committees - In Case You Missed It - Liberal Party of Australia

It is not exactly a large amount, but it is still money wasted by CASA; it's $50,000 a year spent on indoor plants! Thats a large number of plants a year, entertaining the though that some of these plants last more than a single year I have to wonder how much of a jungle their offices must have become.

Has anyone else come across other 'fun' uses of taxpayer money by our beloved regulator? (Backed up by a reference or quote where possible)

This could be dangerous :} found this one thanks to Crikey - CASA fails expensively in efforts to curb private heli pilot | Plane Talking

What is far more important than apologies is the way in which CASA directs its efforts and public resources. CASA’s mandate is essentially to ensure safety for the travelling public. Is it really good allocation of these resources to expend perhaps a half a million dollars of taxpayers’ funds chasing after one private pilot, who flies only about 100 hours a year and almost exclusively in wilderness areas?

I thought the more amazing thing about the pot plant affair was that the combined talent of the CEO & CFO was unable to answer Sen Nash's question.
