CASA LAME question

G'day all,
I've been prowling through the casa part 66 MOS for awhile now and i'm after some advice from an Australian GA LAME/AME.
Under the new system is it possible for a holder of a Cert IV in Aeroskills (structures) to become qualified to certify composite/sheet metal repairs to aircraft which do not require a type rating and fit under B1.2 category? i.e C172,PA-28 etc..

Or do all repairs have to be certified in the maintenance documentation by a mechanical LAME?

Is there any scope for CASA to introduce the B3 license in the future?

If I have a part 66 style engineers log with all the structures MEA's signed off accompanied with work experience sheets and structures certificate would it be hard to find a LAME to certify repairs which I carry out or get licensed to carry out repairs myself?

Is there many Structural fitters working in GA in Australia?

Any advice from people with experience in this field would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Personally,, nowadays with all the new rules (and still being updated daily upon finding problems), I would just call CASA and ask their Licensing Department directly those questions - just saying :8

LAME Questions

Hi Anthos,

To get your own LAME ticket you would need to complete the Diploma in Aeroskills (about 20 Units) of cometence as well as pass the knowledge exams (20 odd exams).

CASA B3 licence is currently in the proposal stage and awaiting comments from industry before progress but you wwould still need to do the above study.

Good structures people are generally in demand, especially those who could do fiberglass repairs. I belive there is a provision to certify fiberglass work without a licence contained in a CAAP attached to part 145. The person needs to be authorised by the employer and signs on thier behalf.

I hope this helps.

PS: I am a LAME but involved in training other LAME's and lecturing in Air Legislation so feel free to PM me if you have other questions.
