Surprise surprise VH-XXX the first to post about an accident !

Pistin show some respect people may have been killed. I saw a post on f&$book that it may be VH-JXR but that could be completely off too.

That could be because this article shows a picture of it... but it doesn't seem to bear any relation to the content of the article.

Judging by the SMH article saying it was initially reported as a hang glider... I would have thought a microlight.

ETA: Yeah, the VH-JXR picture is almost certainly completely unrelated, most probably came from this incident.

It appears from further updates that the aircraft was a trike / microlight. What a tragedy as I would fully expect to be able to exit a trike in such an accident however some of the bulky clothing associated with these aircraft types would greatly hinder a succesful exit and swim.

Sad news. Must say though that a trike would not be my preferred stead for ditching in, the vertical bar ahead of the pilot is perfectly placed to bash you in the face with the sudden deceleration, not to mention the control bar will generally smash back against you as the wing tries to keep going overhead. I know of at least one ditching overseas where the bar partially wrapped around the pilot, pinning him in his seat, where he drowned, having survived the initial impact:uhoh:

One news agency is quoting eye witnesses as saying the Trike "spiralled in".

This one suggests a wayward spat was involved. There is also mention of a parachute although a trike wing could be mistaken for a parachute.

Was it really XXX? Are you sure? Positive?

As always, the fact of people moving on from this world can be hard for some that are still here to reconcile with.

Those that have moved on no longer need our concern, sympathy, benevolence or anything really. They don't even need our love. Those that are with us do.

There are quite a few on the Central Coast with wonderful memories of the two deceased. The relevant authorities are investigating the accident and I assume will report in due course.

As to the cause? Many would like that question answered. I would hazard to say the cause won't be a new one. Theories abound, but serve no purpose and make none the wiser. We have one thing in common here: we have some interest in aviation. When the report comes out, let's hope it can be used to learn just a little bit more about making our flying better.

With all respect to this unfortunate individuals family, that doesn't sound like an awful lot of experience.
