Seeking Knowledge from Instructor Types

Good afternoon,
I am taking the leap into that big scary unknown world in the clouds of Instrument flying and having a crack at the IREX exam in a couple of weeks.
Many years ago when I did CPL, we would put page marker tags in our AIPs for quick reference.
Does anybody know if ASL still let you do that or do they get a bit upset and call it cheating now?

Swept-Wing 26th Jan 2013 03:38

sat IREX in september

10 tabs allowed in the AIP

Cheers mate, that should do the trick well enough.

Swept-Wing 26th Jan 2013 06:50

AND for the record its 5 in the ERSA

aileron_69 26th Jan 2013 07:59

True, Im also not going to be looking up trivial exam question crap that is next to useless in everyday flying.

blacklabel 26th Jan 2013 08:04

Like what ?

aileron_69 26th Jan 2013 08:28

Like data irrelevant to the aircraft or operation I am flying in.
And no I will not have the tags in there for reference for anything other than the exam. Im ok with looking like a twit, but there is only me in the cockpit so thats ok.

aileron_69 26th Jan 2013 11:47

Depends on your viewpoint I guess. I don't share well, so probably best if I'm the only one up front.

Cessna 180 26th Jan 2013 12:13

Well, Blacklabel, when he is trucking along in his plane he is not likely to have AIP with him or need to look anything in it up.

The DAP and ERSA that he will have with him are in alphabetical order.

Square Bear 26th Jan 2013 21:18

You are required to have an AIP onboard?

Swept-Wing 26th Jan 2013 22:40

what the **** is wrong with people... blacklabel its like your looking for an argument on here. . .
These are CASA's rules..... they say 10 tags, then 10 tags it is... Who are you to question them???? His trying to pass an exam here so who cares!!!!!!!
My god.

T28D 26th Jan 2013 22:41

Sq Bear, just in case you are bored, something to read ??????

aileron_69 27th Jan 2013 00:52

Hey Blacklabel mate, do you get a good view from up there on your high horse? :E

717tech 27th Jan 2013 01:02

Well I'll say it.. Good luck with the exam mate!

Sunfish 27th Jan 2013 02:29

CPT733 27th Jan 2013 04:56

aaahhhhh wankers ..... Theres never enough on this site..... Blacklabel congrads on being the  wit of the day :ok:

Cessna 180 27th Jan 2013 04:59

Well Mr Label,

You had best point us in the direction of the regulation. Not saying it's not required, I just had no idea, so maybe you could give us some guidance here instead of coming over like a knob.

In Nearly 3000 hr's the only time I remember carrying the AIP on board was on my way to ATPL Air Law exam at Wagga.

I also asked a few of my colleagues this morning and none of them do either, so obviously we are in big trouble then.

And no, I have never had to calculate by using that 20% thingy rule either, have always found either grid or route LSALT works fine

Square Bear 27th Jan 2013 07:03

blacklabel you should "tag" and have a read of:

AIP GEN 0.1-5 section 9 RELEVANT DOCUMENTS AND CHARTS

before you sanctiomonsly "rest your case".

Have a look at it and you may even agree that the AIP is not a necessary when "one is up front on his own "like a big boy captain (your words).

Hint, when you read, and quote, legislation you should read it in total.

5-in-50 27th Jan 2013 07:14

Remember, the rules say nothing specific about highlighting. I've previously highlighted the AIP contents pages, with all the references found in the relevant text book of study.
It allows for quick scanning of relevant sections of AIP and overlooking of irrelevant ones.
