Skilled Occupation list
Guys and Girls, FEDSEC.
Once again can someone please explain how AME's are on this list when our industry, especially in Australia has been decimated? It is utter BS that this remains. We all need to make it an utmost priority to change it. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/updated-sol.pdf |
Write to your MP and senator and ask them to seek an answer from the relevant minister.

Be careful what you wish for. From what I have seen the people filling these positions seem to be only taking jobs that can't be filled by Aussies... just try and get an avioncs guy or good sheetie in a remote area!!!
I know a lot of people who simply can't get engineers and have wound back their ops resulting in less pilot jobs at the bottom end of the industry. Sure there are some Qantas guys, and before them Ansett guys, on the market, but not many prepared to work in remote areas, nor in GA, or on more specialist types! I am not aware of any damage this is causing the industry... happy to be proved wrong though! |

Fair enuff Arnold, what ever the AD is for transponders.4 Barons cost 10K
|
And how many 457 visas make it to the bush...........obviously it's working if you still can't get anyone.
|
Yeah, and what are they prepared to pay, I will answer that, slightly more than flipping burgers at Hungry Jacks.:ugh::ugh: |
One GA guy I was talking to last week IS paying $70 per hour... One GA guy I was talking to last week IS paying $70 per hour... Can I ask, what is the location of your 4 aircraft.. |
Arnold, not mine but are between Alice and Katherine.

Working on a contractor crew of AME's at the moment . They got together 10 randoms , mostly foreigners, for a C check . Seems most ex qantas guys don't want to leave the comfort of home.
Being a GA LAME Ive rarely seen a ex Qantas guys CV come across the desk . Most see it as a step backwards and can make a better living doing something else. Huge lack of avionics guys , CASA I believe is using EASA licencing as a stop gap to giving mech guys more electrical privileges and box changing rights with BITE units. Not much that self tests in a GA aircraft Most cost associated with radio and instruments is the test gear .Like a ifr4000 or 6000 box . With more complex aircraft how are you going to test aircraft without up to date test equipment? Sorry if this doesn't make sense recovering from a hangover :E |
Maybe, casual adhoc rate, is that full time, part time , casual, what?? come on, give the whole story, how are you supposed to live and plan on that???? $70 per hour is for a LAME with multiple turbine types on their licences. how are you supposed to live and plan on that? than flipping burgers at Hungry Jacks The issue remains there is a shortage of good skilled people once you get away from the major cities!.. |
It's not just Aviation that has problems attracting talent to the bush.
Engineering, Health, Education etc etc etc. have problems attracting skilled people to regional areas. Even the TTMRA agreement to attract skilled Kiwis to Australia didn't even dent the numbers required to fill jobs in the bush. It's not a matter of pay. Workers these days generally prefer the Big Smoke. Until that changes, Australia will continue to import labour to the bush via 457 and/or skilled migration. |
