Australia airline positions and information from a pilot in the US
Hey I am sure there have been similar questions about this topic before. However, I have been checking around for a long time now and would like some help from other pilots in Australia.
I am currently a first officer at a regional airline in the US. I have only certificates from the US. I am looking to emigrate to Australia. My fiancee lives in Adelaide at the moment, so I would like to move close to there. I have been looking at and am applying to REX and QantasLink. I have 1400 TT. 900 in a Beech 1900 as a first officer. If anyone has any comments, recommendations, or other threads to check out, please let me know. I am looking for more information on airlines that are hiring and transferring certificates. The immigration issue should be taken care of with a partnership visa. It is getting a job that I am looking into now. Thanks again |
Several issues
You need the right to work in Oz - unfortunately being educated, white, employable and possibly a good asset to the country will hold no sway. No if you come on a leaky boat from Indonesia they will probably give you a house and car. You will have to do many conversions, look at Civil Aviation Safety Authority - Home As for work, there are hundreds of hundrds of guys with 5000hrs+ still flying Chieftains or instructing. There are plane loads of pilots who have 5000hrs in command of 737 or A320 who are driving taxis. Probably the only way in is to do an instructor rating (3 months and $15,000), thats after 3 months to get all your conversions, and approach a flying college. i think you would get a gig there. The instrument writen is a killer. PM me is you want some more info. |
Unfortunately REX are only looking at type rated (SAAB) captains, with regard to expats.
You sound as though you fit the bill with regard to "struggle street" (REX love people like that:E) but I'm afraid they're not quite short of F/O candidates, yet! Good luck, keep your ear to the ground. |
Convert your licence and instrument rating to Australian, as has already been stated, then look at employment opportunities in Adelaide. Assuming you have 2000+ hours I know of a mob there who may give you a shot. PM me for more info. Good luck
