Pretty interesting stuff. Sounds like a hell of a deal too. I wonder why Griffith? I didn't think their Aviation degree was as competitive as the likes of UNSW or Swinburne.

@cynical pilot, I would reckon that it leans toward the fact that CX can only take in foreign pilots for advanced cadetship program as the ab-initio is open to HKID holders only.

So the HK Immigration Department refuses to issue work visas to foreign ab-initio cadets...

Solution: Have the Australian Government fund the 'pre-screened' ab-initio cadet via VETFEE and then take them to the HK Immigration dept as a foreign trained AE cadet!

CX management must have given themselves a pat on the back over that one!

I wonder how many of these applicants will ever come back to Australia to service their $100k+ HECS/VETFEE debt. How much of the $550k CX AE 'forgivable loan' will the Aust government ever see???

Is that the bird who dobbed a training capt in for reading the paper. Nothing like quality applicants.

This is interesting since Griffith doesn't do any flying training anyway. It is all subcontracted.

So it appears that aussie students use government fee-help loans to get flying training via a private flying school, and may never have to pay back the loans if they never come back to Australia. All this is facilitated by Griffith which presumably siphons off some fees along the way. The big losers here are the aussie taxpayers, and maybe the student if they don't pick up a cadetship.

:rolleyes: A persons integrity and moral constraints have nothing to do with their choice in aviation as a career. Maybe one day CASA will implement integrity and moral background check on pilots to qualify for a CPL. But until then it has nothing to do with it.

$100,000 student loan compared to < $20 000.

New Zealand offers an interest free loan scheme for students, however on moving abroad for work, interest rates are introduced to the loan at a pretty high rate. Maybe people posting here are suggesting something like that.
