MECIR - What would you do?

I have a lapsed NZ MEIR, its 6 months lapsed.

I'm currently in Australian GA logging hours in S.E but later down the track I want to move on to bigger, faster, -more engines.

Obviously having a MECIR is a must later on.... I want to renew it but what should I do?

I plan to stay in AUS for a few years at least.:ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh:

Buy a plane ticket and go renew it.

I'd study the CER agreement in case you can do a MECIR renewal here.

Is coming back to NZ and renewing it an option? My club has done a few MEIR renewals for Aussie based pilots recently.

From what I've heard coming back to NZ can be the better option. I was told by one guy that came back for a renewal that one Aussie operator at least considered the New Zealand renewal to be of a higher standard. I don't know why and was surprised by that statement, I didn't expect there would be any difference. Needless to say since this guy was going to work for that operator he came all the way back to NZ for the renewal.

Under TTMRA you need a current rating to convert so unless it's already on your Aussie licence then it a no brainer to come back to do it.

Buy a ticket home, and stay there.

what roughly would it cost to do a renewal through mainland?
