SOMERSBY AIRSTRIP NSW

Looks like there are earth works underway on and around the strip.

Does anyone have any info if it is still in use or is it going the way of the dodo.

The news is all good - the new owner continues to invest in new hangars and has entered into a deal which will see a large amount of fill applied to the northern end, eliminating a lot of the slope and cross-grade that currently limits the strip's potential.

I'm sure he'll bring you up to date in due course. But close? no f'n way! :ok:

Raptor,
Last time I visited (at ground level) to eyeball the place, with the intent of seeking permission for aeronautical use, absent any published data, some seriously big trees outside the boundary looked like they would have a very limiting effect on EOL.
For my aircraft, it was clear that it was out of the question.
A friend of mine used to base a Twin Comanche there, but only ever positioned out with one up and minimum fuel.
Ask the new owner if he/she has a survey.
Tootle pip!!

I know the owner and the strip well and i have about 1600 hours on Chieftains.

Because of the obstacles at each end, I would caution strongly against using SMB in an aircraft that size/weight/speed.
...but then I'm not very brave any more.
