Next time you send a resume in
Here's a thought...those that are applying to the companies that are seeking pilots from overseas and in the process claiming that there are not enough qualified pilots here in Australia to fill these positions...next time you send a resume in you should also send a copy of your resume along with a cover letter with the details of the job you are applying for, to either your local politician or someone like Nick Xenophon...after receiving a few hundred of these they will get a clearer understanding of just how many pilots are out there looking for work...perhaps somebody could help with the appropriate links

Well said E&H . I am on the war path with every MP in my area. I have been a airline Captain for many years and very piŁ&ed off with the way these airlines are trying to get get cheap labour over our well trained and experienced GA pilots. Just hope they get the "cream of the crap " from overseas and it bites them in he arse !

Plenty of guys in the raaf waiting for the phone call. 500-2000hrs command multi-engine (big) aircraft, overseas experience, deployments etc.
On of my mates says he will probably get a job with Rex on $40k (down from $120 in raaf) to stay flying rather than do his crappy job in the cube farm. Not just fresh ATPL students Struggling |
When I flew Mr Xenophon just recently he was very interested in how many resumes I receive every week and what kind of experience levels the applicants had. This is a big topic for him, he picked my brain for a while and seemed very motivated to get things changed, Jetstar is in his sights! I think he would welcome your suggestion!

He still had to pay $40k for the 'privilege' of working for this new company. Worse still, he must take a pay cut and be based overseas (you guess the airline). Airlines do not give a rats about deployments or overseas experience anymore, they just want bums on seats and minimal liability. |
You are of course correct JR. No one held a gun to his head and made him sign up. He just simply had no other opportunities to get into a jet; this had been his lifes' ambition and he is not getting any younger. I wouldn't do it, but it seems that's the only way people are getting ahead now.
Four friends have moved into airline jobs in the last few months and everyone of them paid for it. It seems their terms are the only ones on which they will hire. |
There are jobs out there with a lot more "job satisfaction" than that airline.
Passenger Jet flying is overrated. |

About a year ago a collegue, Turboprop Check Captain, 25+ years experience, left to pursue a Jet job with that LCC. You know, the one Senator Nick is looking at.
This is what he did to chase the dream.
Pilots are definitely their own worst enemies! |

Actual working hours
Just lurking whilst recovering, anyway.....
Once one has made it into a jet job, how many non-flying hours are required/paid per flying hour actually done? Cheers ML :ok: |
He had 3000 TT, 2000 ME command, and was a Turboprop regional check/training captain What company was this? I'll make sure that I add them to the list of carriers that I wont fly with. |
