DH-82A Ditching into Swan River - 1996..?

Hey Guys and Gals, I need a little help here....

I'm trying to locate any details about the ditching into the Swan River of one DH-82A, VH-FAS.

The only details I can find 'on line' is a 2-line report from the WA Water Police, dated 1996.....
"1996: Christopher Pinch was rescued after the Tiger Moth, in which he was the passenger, crashed in the Swan River. Police divers responded swiftly, retrieving and resuscitating Mr Pinch who had been submerged for 10 minutes."

The only ones on the ATSB site I can find are....
Jan 1987 - a crash 15km S of JT.
Oct 1984 - an incident at JT.

I tried the Good Ole PPRuNE....zilch so far....

Any suggestions pleeeze?? (ONLY the 'constructive' ones tks..):E

Ta guys and gals.....:ok:

Was owned by RACWA, it was spun into the water (a the better option on hitting the HT powerlines crossing Leeuwin Barracks). I watched it get pulled out, oil all over the cowls - prob a catastrophic engine failure???
More info - please PB me.

Tiger pilot

Pilots name was Greg Robinson, worked for RACWA. Believe FAS was rebuilt and is still at RACWA.

Date was either 29-11-1995 or 22-12-1995. Pilot called Mayday after engine failure and ditched.

It's still at RACWA

At least it was, when I was there late last year[2011]. I've done about 10hrs "stick" time in this 1942 built machine, back in the late 1990s & early 2000s. VH-FAS or "Tiger 37 " was the call sign at fly-ins/airshows. Used by RACWA for joyrides etc. around Perth & beaches. Typical bi-plane mongrel on a windy day, but lots of fun doing a bit of stick & rudder stuff, and soft aerobatics.:ok:

I thought it was Werner that ditched or was that another one?? The pax was/is a lucky man to survive after being underwater for so long.

Geez time flies (pardon the pun).

I saw said aircraft in the maintenance hanger after it was scooped out of the river. What a mess!

The pilot was definately Greg Robinson and no powerlines were hit just avoided at last minute.

It was probably around the same time that Werner had a very lucky escape from a nasty prang in a Chipmunk. I think it was out around Byford / Serpentine way.

Werner was also involved in the crash of VH-RWI (actually the RACWA's second use of this rego; not to be confused with Griffo's wonderful steed) at Mundijong on 25.2.1997.

Some interesting lessons there regarding the desirability of 5-point harnesses and the dangers of overly compressible seat cushions....
