Just thought I'd put a plug in here for a good bloke Owen Zupp. I've worked with Zuppie in the Air Force Cadets as well as crossing paths with him on a semi regular basis in Qantas.

He writes regularly for Australian Aviation often doing air tests and similar as well as providing some airline type input into the magazine on technical (and other) issues.

He's also written a great book called 'Down to Earth'- a biography about a WWII fighter pilot (Ken McGlashan) during Dunkirk and the Battle of Britain.

He writes a regular blog on a variety of aviation issues and it's well worth following if you're interested in a variety of aviation topics.

His blog is here but you can also check out the rest of his website too. Owen Zupp

Hope this sends some more traffic his way. :ok:

I met Owen a couple of years ago when he was flying around Aus for the RFDS in his Jabiru.

To say he's a very down to earth, humble, experienced gentlemen who'll give you the time of day to chat about his experiences, would be a very good summary of his persona.

He's the sort of person we should all aspire to be like in our career's.

Another thumbs up for Owen, his blog, and what he does for/in the industry. :ok:

There used to be a Zupp instructor at the Royal Aero Club NSW in the 50's.
Is Owen related?

nitpicker330 18th Jan 2012 08:16

He's on that other program Twotter 😉

@owenzupp

I had to type Twotter, when I typed the actual name Pprune changed it to Pprune!!!!!

mustafagander 18th Jan 2012 08:34

HotPete,

If that was Phil Zupp (I kid you not!!), then he is related.

FoxtrotAlpha18 18th Jan 2012 21:45

OZ is also an excellent and hilarious after dinner speaker too...his stories about his RFDS flight (and many others) will captivate you and leave you in stitches! :ok:

zlin77 19th Jan 2012 00:56

I believe Phil Zupp is Owen's Father, Phil worked for East-West Airlines in their General Aviation Division flying N.S.W. Air Ambulance Queen Airs in the
80's when I was there.....

mustafagander 19th Jan 2012 07:57

That's the one. NSW Air Ambulance for a few years and Flt Sim Aust at BK in the 90s.

He flew with Qantas for a while too I believe.

He was a very good instructor and patient enough to push me along the paths of IFR righteousness.

Owen's dad's Meteor from combat in Korea is on display in the AWM. I think Owen is working on a book of his Dad's life as well. Not sure.

Hi All,

Thanks for the discussion and kind words; particularly about my Dad. I'm very humbled and somewhat embarrassed. I also appreciate the feedback about the blog and website which is seem to be growing at a great rate of knots.

Keg is quite correct in that I have a major work on my father in the very advanced stages. If there's anyone out there with recollections or anecdotes about Dad, please contact me through the website or send me a PM.

Once again thanks for the support. The blog gives me a chance to share my passion for aviation and writing and the response has been overwhelming.

Here's one of my first blog posts which is relevant to this thread.
Auld Lang Syne. An Aviation Blog by Owen Zupp.

Cheers,

Owen

Thank You

Hi All,

Just a short note to say thank you for the support of the new aviation blog after its first full month.

The response has been far beyond my expectations and I'm currently wading through the many emails and queries to reply to each one individually.

Thanks in particular to all the ppruners.

Cheers

Owen

I liked your advice in one of your recent blogs about picking a flying school Owen. That sort of stuff should be 'stickied' at the top of Dunnunda Questions because it comes up frequently.

:ok:

I see Owen now has an ebook available here.

I think it's available on Amazon soon.

Fond memories of that ever dapper gentleman, Phil Zupp. Also his good wife Edith, alongside whom it was always worth sitting at reunion dinners. This couple were of a generation whose qualities and attributes can only vaguely be sensed, if at all, by those raised today into a different world.

"Without reverence, from the wasteland will flourish the rank weeds of dishonour."

DTE 25th Feb 2013 08:25

Hi Fantome,

Thanks for those very kind words about Mum and Dad. It means a lot to me that he is remembered fondly by so many.

Could you please PM me as to where you knew Dad from?

Thanks again,

Owen

Hi All,

I know this is an old thread, but a few folks here knew my dad over his long military and civil career. I'd just thought I'd let you know that his story is now a book and eBook, titled 'Without Precedent'. Here's a short video with some shots, mainly from his time in the RAAF.

Cheers,

Owen
