Antiques site says its cancelled this time around. An insurance problem?
Or was it the camp site/parking area?
Not a helpful council

It is cancelled due to some construction or something, and the parking/camping area unusable...read it on aeroclub.com.au

From the aeroclub site: Too bad I was looking forward to it!

It is with deep regret that the Fly-In committee wish to tell you all that the 2012 Great Eastern has had to be cancelled. This is due to a number of reasons beyond our control; the condition of the site, recent financial requirements by council and safety concerns re the proposed new parking area.

The non airside area of the Aerodrome, which includes the camping area, market and car club area and access roads are unusable in their present condition as a result of decontamination works which have been undertaken this year for the sale of 10hc of Aerodrome land in the southern area. This has left hectares of large mounds of soil over the camping and parking areas with works buildings, temporary wire barriers and deeply rutted ground. In the market area a large portiong has been dug up for rememdation as well as very large bulldozed holes, deep ruts, craters and soft sandy soil over much of the rest. The access road to alternative camping areas and runway 0927 is no longer usable for a large number of vehicles.

We have have been required to use the southern airside section of the Aerodrome, including runway 1432, for a car park for 300 cars and are required to pay for the access road to this area, something we cannot afford to do. We also see this as a major safety concern, especially given the recent incident at Old Bar where aircraft and Ferris Wheel collided. We also do not want any damage occurring to this area, including the runway surface by up to 3,000 vehicles.

We would like to thank all those people involved in the Fly-In, in any way, those of you intending to come this year and our general volunteers and workers who often travel long distances to get to Evans Head. We wish you a very happy Xmas holiday time and 2012.

AND! As we say, Never Give Up - Never Surrender, we love this event and so 'We'll Be Back' in January 2013, ready to party for our 21st Birthday! So bring your dancing shoes and your aircraft or car, flying or driving. See You There!
