Wedge Island ALA

A very good evening folks,

Looking at going on a fishing trip with the lads over to Wedge Island (South Australia) in the near future but I am struggling to find any info on the Airport (freqs, runway info etc) nothing is listed in either the ERSA or my country airfield guide.... not even an uncle google search revealed anything! so I've hit a bit of a dead end...

So if anyone has any info they can pass on or contact details for anyone who may know that would be muchly appreciated!!

Cheers n Beers!

Wedge Island is privately owned and there is quality holiday accommodation available.

I would try this link first:

Wedge Island Wilderness Retreat

Good Fishing!:ok:

Be cautious. The strip location on WAC doesn't seem to be correct. I flew over it only 14 days ago. Check it.

happy days,

Google Earth is your friend. The strip appears about 750m.

The strip location shown on the WAC is the helipad at the lighthouse on the southeastern corner (and the highest point) of the island. The strip is near the NW corner - 08/26 approx 1000m - beware the odd emu taking a stroll and moderate to severe turbulence when southerly winds between 100 and 250 degrees due to the terrain. Back in the good old days specific operator approval was required from CASA to use the strip but back then it was banana shaped and grass with a couple of un-nerving humps. It still needs great care.

I noticed that.... the strip location appears to be on the south-east of the island on the charts yet I know for a fact its located on the north-western side!

Thanks for that link Ovation... after looking at the accommodation looks like a boys weekend away is on the cards!! looks schmick!

Thanks for your input guys! :ok:

Not a bad strip. Flown Several aircraft there in the last few years. About 850m useable and its 08/26. Bit of a hump in the middle but no problem. Can be turbulent on final with a southerly wind. Great view of the beach on final!
