G1000 hsi
Somthing thats been bugging us in the office today is the G1000 HSI
When tuned to a VOR we know the HSI in a g1000 is changed to the same limits as a normal HSI When coupled to a VOR or localizer (LOC), the CDI has the same angular limits as a mechanical CDI. But the indicators stay the same. The question is what does each of the dots represent in terms of degrees off track? Thanks |
10 degrees either side and 2 dots.
I would say each dot is therefore 5 degrees. |
Thats what I would think so too but theres nothing in the manuals to prove that its the case???

I flew G1000 equipped aeroplanes for years and never found anywhere that it was explicitly stated. My suggestions would be to experiment with it in day VMC. Use the GPS to get a certain distance off track from a known VOR radial and then use the 1/60 rule to work out how many degrees that should be at your distance from the VOR. Display the VOR and see what the indication is.

With the CDI centered, can't you just turn the OBS 5 or 10 degrees either way and see what it reads?

What have GPS mode settings for an RNAV Approach got to do with HSI deflection in VLOC (VOR) mode?
