Naips for windows 7?

Hi All,
Just wondering what people do because naips won't run on anything later than XP. Currently i run "xp mode" a virtual machine on my windows 7 machine and start it up whenever i needs naips. How does everyone else do it? and is there an alternative (other than the web portal)

Cheers

G'day J,

Run the NAIPS installer on an XP machine. Copy the NAIPS Pilot Access folder from C:/Program Files on the XP machine into C:/Program Files on your W7 computer.

nfw.exe doesn't seem to be the problem with W7, it's the self-extractor before the installation that screws up.

Happy NAIPSing

Search is your friend. NAIPS runs fine on Windows 7. Topic has been discussed ad nausem in earlier threads.

Soar2384 10th Jun 2011 11:26

Works fine on Vista too!

jnicholas 10th Jun 2011 11:37

well there you go! i remember looking ages ago and never found a solution for vista - must not have looked hard enough. I shall give it a go

Are you guys talking about Naips The Website, or Naips The Windows Program?

Yes, Naips, via the Airservices website works fine. I haven't used the Windows NAIPS program version for years. Had no need to.

I'd also like to know who uses the computer based software version apposed to the website and what is the benefit?

I've noticed lots of companies have it installed on their computer?

I rather just go on the web based version.

I downloaded & installed NAIPS on a W7 machine through the week. Seems to work fine.

Shagpile 11th Jun 2011 02:22

Just use this...

Airservices Australia - Flight Briefing - Pilot Briefing Services

Capn Bloggs 11th Jun 2011 05:41

Shagpile, the web version is too clunky. For example, you cannot delete sectors from a stored flight file/SPFIB/Flt Not.

Selecting/Printing multiple products is easier from NAIPS for Win.

You can store all your favourite routes in NAIPS for Win.

Running the program from it's folder is the way to go. You can even run it off your thumbdrive. Neat when you're in a strange office but which has a computer.

Hawker114 11th Jun 2011 06:22

Anyone know the meaning or use of the code before each individual notam?

Eg C8/11

Im assuming it just means the 8th issued for that aerodrome in 2011?

Me.

what is the benefit?
More than one benefit ... The web one is a crock of crap. Everything that Bloggs said, plus the computer based one is much better at handling errors. It lets you know that you did something daft and allows you fix to it and re-submit, rather than making you start again from the beginning like the web one often does. Bloody frustrating when you've just put in a multi-stage plan ! And how daft is it that the web one asks you how many stages you want beforehand ? Very lazy programming from someone ...

I installed NAIPS on my W7 32bit system with no problems.

Harro 12th Jun 2011 06:20

NAIPS runs on Windows 7 fine.
You need to elevate it to administrator privileges though.

To do this right click the NAIPS for Windows icon and select "Run as administrator"

Unhinged 12th Jun 2011 08:31

No you don't. Topic discussed ad nauseum in earlier threads.

Harro 12th Jun 2011 10:07

Actually it depends on your Windows 7 security configuration.
If you dont have local admin rights you will need to elevate, if you do you wont need to do anything.

If your having problems with NAIPS on W7 (which I've heard many users say they do) elevate as describe above it should work.

As a side note many corporate deployed PC's wont grant users local admin rights by default whereas your typical home PC will have full local admin rights.

I have a new machine running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. The installer wouldn't work regardless of Administrator rites or compatability settings. I followed the advise of ConfigFull and copied the whole folder from my old confuser to Program files (x86) and it worked like a dream, even remembering my settings and log on. My guess is that the installer won't work on a 64 bit machine, hence some people have no problems whilst others come up against a brick wall. Anyway, my thanks to ConfigFull.

Getting NAIPS to work on Win7 PRO

If you have NAIPS working on an XP machine copy the whole Naips Pilot Access Directory from within Program Files and copy it into the Win7 Program Files (x86) and select the program icon and it will work. You'll need to make another program shortcut to your desktop etc.

This is a bit academic, because it looks like AsA is going to bone NAIPS for windows:
