"Radar Terrain" in NZ
 

Can someone provide the reference in NZ AIP where is states that when ATC clear you to descend, with the phrase "Radar Terrain", that it cancels the height constraints on a STAR.

Just a GA pilot but I don't think it does. I got this out of the circular, which you can find on AIP New Zealand


Aircraft shall comply with the speed and altitude constraints depicted, unless specifically authorised by ATC to do otherwise.

When an arriving aircraft on a STAR is cleared to descend to a level lower than the level or the level(s) specified in a STAR, the aircraft shall follow the published vertical profile of a STAR, unless such restrictions are explicitly cancelled by ATC.

Note: Route segment MSA have been depicted on STAR charts primarily for contingency purposes.

Descent Below the Published Vertical Profile

"ATC may instruct an aircraft to descend below the published profile on a star in accordance with the radar terrain contour map. While complying with this instruction, the pilot in command is required to maintain lateral tracking."

eg "CONTINUE TRACKING VIA THE STAR, DESCEND TO .......(ft), RADAR TERRAIN (REASON)"

Radar terrain overrides star profile. Helps get lower for visual app.

5.12.3 Whenever a clearance or a number of clearances are issued to an aircraft subject to a radar terrain contour map, the pilot will be advised in the first transmission only that terrain clearance is being sourced from the radar terrain contour map. The following phrase will be appended to the clearances: “...RADAR TERRAIN”.

Yes , it does. More often than not this type of descent clearance is given to aircraft not on a STAR.
