Airbus Vacancies - Strategic Airlines

I understand that Strategic will be advertising this weekend for more 330 and 320 pilots. I guess this comes on the back of their expanded 330 and 320 operations. ;):D

Gnadenburg 19th Jan 2011 00:49

What do they pay? I'm guessing they go for already trained and experienced Airbus crew.

Olive61 19th Jan 2011 01:18

I have about half a dozen acquaintances there. Seem to be a happy bunch. I understand FOs are on approx K110 to K130, and Capts K170 to K182 +++. Airbus preferred, but I know of one or two who have been type rated to come on board. They have a pretty good website, and are obviously expanding. Copped some bad press recently over the ADF contract but are clearly not sitting on their hands. A mate on the 330 has just had a month or so off on full pay whilst the 330 gets reconfigured for the new asian services. Have seen some previous threads about it being a repository for ex ansett guys, but my man tells me the majority of drivers are not ex AN - mixed bag of origins from what he says. Ex Mil, Tiger, Dragon, RFDS, Emirates, OzJet etc etc. I know they've just recruited four or five, and my man says they're about to do the same again. ;):D

Hello Olive61,

Are Strategic expanding their fleet, or just the number of RPT routes?

Olive61 19th Jan 2011 03:16

Don't have any expert knowledge here, but I understand they are expanding their routes with the existing oz based four machines.

Sunstar320 19th Jan 2011 04:32

Alot of Tiger guys there, most are 330 rated after coming from KA, who previously worked for AN.

aussie027 19th Jan 2011 05:41

Do they ever even interview let alone hire anyone who has no multi crew above 5700kg time???
I just found the form, HR sent me a brief app form months ago and it only has spaces for time on types over 40 tonnes.:{
The email said must have Airbus experience & ATPL.

So I guess anyone without time on a jet over 40T and preferrably a Bus at that has no chance whatsoever??

jed_thrust 19th Jan 2011 05:59

So I guess anyone without time on a jet over 40T
I'm standing by for incoming, but why would you think you have a chance to fly a 330 without heavy jet time?

zanthrus 19th Jan 2011 08:31

Why not? Its just another bloody aeroplane.

Pilots fly jets all the time straight from GA with minimal experience.

It is all about the check and training regime in the company.

ratpoison 19th Jan 2011 08:39

Oh dear, yet another Y gen response. There's wreckage from one end of the planet to the other from mindsets like that. :ugh:

Metro man 19th Jan 2011 09:11

Yes but, it's a lot easier and cheaper for them to recruit people with appropriate experience, who require minimal training and are almost certain to get checked to line.

It's simply a question of supply and demand. If they have difficulty finding applicants with the specified experience they will need to relax the requirements and increase the training capacity/budget.

QANTAS may not care so much about what's in the log book because they are geared up for training and want to employ "their type" of pilot.

Normasars 19th Jan 2011 22:43

Ratpoison,

Absolute crap. It aint that hard mate. Don't kid yourself.

zanthrus 19th Jan 2011 22:48

Thanks Ratpoison for jumping to the wrong conclusion.
I am decidedly NOT Gen Y mate!

It seems to be just a question of companies not wanting to spend a single training dollar. They don't seem to realise the pool of very capable and eminently suitable applicants that they are excluding with this kind of recruiting policy. Their loss.:yuk:

THRidle 20th Jan 2011 17:03

Zanthrus, they do “realise the pool of very capable and eminently suitable applicants that they are excluding” but for small operators It’s simply a matter of economics. They just can’t afford the training costs, and It’s not just with big jets. Try getting a turbine job with no turbine time, or getting a twin job with just Cessna-210 in your licence. I’m not saying It’s right. I’m just saying that’s they way it is.

KABOY 20th Jan 2011 20:30

Normas,

Knuckle down buddy, that next transition is going to test your abilities! Maybe the -400 would have been a better step, as it will be downhill from there. Just ask the clowns in the Far East!!!!!

hongkongfooey 21st Jan 2011 21:20

They don't seem to realise the pool of very capable and eminently suitable applicants that they are excluding with this kind of recruiting policy.
Zanthrus, all the " a C152 pilot could command a 747 " BS aside, why, as an operator, would you hire non-jet or non type rated guys when there are probably 100s of type rated and jet experienced guys on your books ?

A lot of us went from Chieftains to jets, thats not my point tho, why hire a chieftain guy when there is a 320 guy applying also ( especially if the 320 guy is ex AN ;)

mustman 21st Jan 2011 22:06

I love the blaming of Gen Y. :ugh:

I don't think it is Gen Y who has set up all of the current cadet ship programs. These programs seem to think people can jump from a 152 straight to RPT on some serious machines. E.g. Jetstar, Qlink, Rex etc

pilotbc69 22nd Jan 2011 22:41

Ah yes the ol' catch 22

You need heavy jet time to fly a heavy jet, but you can't get heavy jet time unless you have heavy jet time.

It's interesting and sad to note that there are that many unemployed or unhappily employed people with heavy time floating around.

Anthill 24th Jan 2011 01:11

Olive 61,

Are Strategic pilots paid in Kina ??

witwiw 24th Jan 2011 04:12

but I understand they are expanding their routes
Obviously, a misunderstanding according to their website and the dropping of Den Pasar shortly.

Methinks it's the tip of the iceberg .............................
