Instructor Rating - Which flying school would you recommend?
 

Hello,

I am looking at doing an Instructor Rating within the next few months and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to do it :confused:- preferably in Sydney or Melbourne.

Really? Search too difficult to use? Really expected that PPRuNe would help you make your mind up, or just give you more questions than answers?

Might as well just compile a list of every flying school in Australia, everyone is going to suggest each school at least once!

Isn't that the truth.
And every pilot is likely to recommend the school where they themselves trained and since most flying training stages are done only once they have nothing to compare that training with.

All these "where's the best.............." threads are a pain in the fundamental orifice.

Cynical Pilot- Thanks for this very...positive comment...Yes, I am aware of this well-known fact that there are instructors and pilots overall unemployed out there- should we all stop trying then?!

tmpffisch- I have done a search prior to posting a new thread- numerous actually- I am not looking for a LIST of flying schools , and was simply asking for advice as I don't really fancy wasting a further $15K in some sort of dodgy flying school selling empty promises ( although by the look of things they all seem to do so, but surely , there must be some out there less worse than others).

I will try and make this constructive -

The facts

RVAC are now running part time Instructor Courses, 2 days per week

Cost is $16000 + CASA test fee.
All hours are with a Grade 1, no mutual
53 hours inc as per the proposed casa caap
A variety of aircraft, C152, C172, PA28, PA28R, Alpha 160 and sportstar.
All briefings and material provided

Trainees over the last 12 months have ended up with instructing jobs at

Lilydale x 1
Mangalore x 1
RVAC x 4
Malaysia x 1

Try This,

Complete ATPL theory
Read and have an understanding of Kermodes Mechanics of Flight
Read and have an understanding of Ekalbars Flying high performance singles and twins.
Read and understand the DAY VFR Syllabus
Read and understand the CAOs, CARs and CAAPs
Read and laugh at the pictures in the FAA instructor handbook.
Complete a Cert 4 in Training

Then go to the flight school and spend most of your time learning the practical aspect.

Most of all go somewhere you are going to enjoy doing it and feel comfortable.

I kind of believe that if you can't recognise when you're being bull****ted to, then you probably deserve it.

You'd probably already know which are the better schools out there in Sydney and Melbourne, go visit them, have a chat, evaluate their culture and employment possibilities and make up your own mind.

Otherwise all you're going to get here on this post is instructor's trying to sell their own flying school on you, or ex students trying to do the same thing..............it's already happened!

The best school to do an instructor rating at, is the one that will give you a job at the end of it!

I really mean that too. Most schools will not touch another schools product unless they don't train instructors themselves. These rules are overlooked once you're a grade 1/2 if they need them.
