Cheapest Medical in Melbourne Area...?
Hi all,
I am just wondering if anyone could advise me the cheapest place that you know of to get my medical renewed in the Melbourne area. I currently hold a Class 2 but may look at completing a Class 1 this time as I'm considering going on to complete my CPL. Thanks in advance. Chris. |
I can't tell you off hand what the cheapest medical in melbourne would be
however i did mine recently in perth to renew expired class 2 was $130 and took around 45 minutes was mostly Q & A, a urine diabeties test and a few movement excercises also eye test and colour Ishara eye excercises. The CASA fee ,for rubber stamping your results and issuing the certificate is $ 65 depending on the sugury this can be paid to the DAME or " within a reasonable time frame " to CASA however they won't pull out the all elusive stamp without the fee being paid. A class 1 medical depending on variables would be quite a lot more pricey especially for a initial issue, plus its valid for 1 year only. It would be nice of CASA if they could get you to do a class 1 yet allow you to then be down graded to class 2 after 12 months until the class 1 is re validated as far as i know they don't offer this option. |
Folks,
Try Dr.A.M.Pape, Bell Post Hill Medical Center, Geelong. Tootle pip!! |
Bert Snorkel DAME.
Royal Dubbo Aero Club RDAC |
This is a Rumour network.... but BOLLOCKS..!

Class 1 Expires end: (date) August 2010 Restrictions: Certain ones including 11. Special Condition: "May not exercise the privileges of an ATPL after (date) February 2010 except where the validity period of the certificate has been extended in accordance with CASR Part 67". (By that, I take it that as long as I am not required to fly the heavier aircraft, and any other conditions requiring an ATPL, I can still operate on the Commercial Class 1. If I do another Class 1 medical to the ATPL renewal satisfaction, at any time before (date)August 2010, then another six months on the Special Condition, 12 months on the Class 1, and 24 months on the Class 2 will be available.) Class 2 Expires end: (date) August 2011 Restrictions: Certain ones same as Class 1 (By that, I take it that as long as I don't fly commercially for hire and reward, I can still fly the 172 privately till that date.) |
I did my class 1 renewal at a medical centre near Laverton.. can't remember the name of the place, but they had excellent facilities. It's a large medical centre and they specialise in work related health care for many industries, not just aviation. All testing for a class 1 (initial and renewal) can be done there and they were quick and efficient. From memory, my renewal cost me about $200 which wasn't too bad as I've been charged more elsewhere. This is their number if you'd like to give them a call. (03)93120800

Don't forget that initial issue of a class 1 medical is likely to have a bunch of additional stuff not required for class 2, ie proper eye tests including glaucoma tests, hearing tests and ECG. Some DAME's can do some of these in-house while others send you to specialists (eg path lab for ECG, hearing test centre for hearing, etc). This adds a whole bunch of additional costs to that of the DAME. A lot of these are triggered by threshold ages, but class 1 puts you on a new merry go round of additional tests.

I'm sure everyone is being helpful.....
Why not look here: CASA Website, Medical Section. It gives all the requirements for different Medicals, plus other useful information. |
Dr McMahon in Broadmeadows. Charges bare minimum. I think I paid about $75 two years ago for class 1. Blood test is done elsewhere with medicare.

My Doctor does not have the facilities for ECG's and Blood tests. So I do them at a Pathology Unit.
So who says your ECG, Blood Tests etc are for a Medical? Not my Doc! :E |
I did a blood test few years ago for my initial class one and I claimed it through my private insurance without any problem.
|
Blood tests are claimable from medicare as long as you are referred by a GP

Bunbury expensive class 2's
Just a warning to pilots in the Bunbury WA district, the cost of a class 2 at the Spencer St Medical Centre is $275.
Try other DAME's in the district, costs range between $150-180..........put the hundred bucks to some training or whatever........ |
