As a reality check wondering what prices were brought in the auction. couldn't figure out how to find on their website. :ok:

I was there. Pity it was in the middle of nowhere, long drive. Many a people came up from Melbourne. Interesting set up, they said there were no reserves but rumours were strong that some aircraft had reserves. A 152 sold for 15k and auctioneer said they had an offer on it for $17.5k prior to auction so maybe it was legit.

I was convinced there were MANY phantom bids pushing things along. Purchasing was only for the experienced bidders otherwise you could spend a fortune very quickly as it went VERY fast indeed, not like a house auction.

152's around 15-25k
Dromaders 50k
78 Duchess was 25k
buchaneer 45k
archer $42
r22 was $186k half life
liberties were 105 70 80 85 & 80

I reckon the guy who bought the first Liberty was kicking himself afterwards. 300 hours less and a set of wheel spats didn't make it worth $35k more!

add 7.5% and a 100 hourly to all prices quoted. Quite a few people were , I there can post a pic or two tomorrow.

they are rough prices, you get the idea.

I did notice that. There was a certain demographic there too, that's for sure. 90% were just sitting back hoping for a bargain. Some of the most unlikely looking people walked away with cheap aircraft.

Most of the aircraft bar the liberties were just plain crap and you wouldn't have wanted them. Remember it was a reposession auction so you're only really going to get a s-hit box that is out if hours. If they weren't out of hours they would still be out there earning cash. The liberties only had around 5 hours left on the MR, just enough to get you home and the 152's could have had wings corroded, you just don't know what you are getting.

Any idea what happened to the big twins (the Dove and the B18)? How much?

Unfortunately both the Beech and the Dove didn't make it there due to parts supply issues. I don't think they are easy to get bits for!

Folks,

The Beech was a Volpar Beech 18, the Antique Airways aeroplane.

You would have to be a masochist to try and keep a Dove serviceable these days, which is why it didn't make it to auction. A wide search (including UK) did not turn up vital bits, bits that were not all that easy to find twenty years ago.

ATX may have been operated by Antique Airways but not owned by them. As best I can guess AA own their a/c and operate still to this day from YRED.

The Beech 18 is over in WA somewhere. The only way to own one of these babies is to have a huge pile of cash and not a lot of need to keep it, even better if said pile of cash is like the Tim Tam packet :)
