As part of the FNQ Entrance Exam, can you share with us your views on the proposed introduction of Daylight Saving to QLD. :E

Jabawocky 16th Apr 2010 07:12

All or Nothing.

Prefer all, for no other reason than the drama it causes to business.:ugh:

But how about we all go to work and school etc an hour earlier instead!:ok:

Citation_X 16th Apr 2010 07:13

Coming from a part of Oz that has daylight savings and that I have seen the benefits at that location aswell as the fact that I have only moved to FNQ recently and not seen a full year of seasons i dont have an opinion as of yet on the introduction of day light savings in QLD. sorry :ok:

Sadly, the best flying job in FNQ is long gone. It was flying Ten Squadron Neptunes out of Townsville. Nine months each year with 8/8s blue, great mates to fly with, trips overseas, Anzac Day on Cocos Island, flying at 100 feet - legally, dropping the last of the RAAF depth charges, shouting our copilot beers in the Officers' Mess, coz he was too young to drink in a pub....

Best job in the world at the time.

Is it just me or are a lot of the fresh CPL's these days really really angry?

And paperbag, I'm proof you don't have to be that intelligent to get the ATPL's and CIR etc...

frigatebird 16th Apr 2010 11:11

It's not anger.. They just throw a tantrum if not spoon-fed. :E

OpsNormal 16th Apr 2010 11:22

Paperbag, unfortunately having secured an ATPL etc is in no way a measure of intelligence, more a measure of how well you can recite the answers.... Before you go and call anyone who disagrees with (or even points out a flaw in your arguments) a moron, consider that the person you are having a go at may have "been there and done that" (as you or... "ya mates" would say)....

If you feel that waiting six months for your first job is waiting a long time, then you're in for a very ugly surprise as things are only slowly returning to the beginning of the last "good times" in 2006-7. At the time morno started his path in this industry (and no, he and I are not the same person - however I will give you a heads-up that I once employed him in a flying role in western Qld many years ago, so to answer your question yeah, he's been a bush pilot and actually reached the top of the tree there....), waiting 2-3 years for your first gig in GA was not uncommon.:ugh:

Dickheads with a smart rrrs attitude in this (very, very small) industry don't get far and it doesn't take much to read further into the written word to work out who is who.... You may wish to grow-up a little paperbag and don't be so thin skinned.:=

Now, FNQ is a lovely place to live and work, however firswt GA jobs around CNS and TL are rarer than the proverbial rocking horse exhaust. You may pick-up a parachute gig or similar however your odds increace the further from any large scale civilisation go (think KU, BME, Arnhemland, central Australia or even places like William Creek etc). Those sort of places sort people out really quickly..... :E

OpsN.;)

The term Bogan comes to mind when I here people speak like that.

paperbag111

I have more bush flying in my past than you could poke a stick at, 90% around the area in question and in PNG and quite frankly you are the first person I have ever seen speak and god forbid actually write like that. As for the bit about I’m intelligent because I have done a CPL, MECIR and ATPL subjects. Please don’t make me laugh so hard. A high school drop out could do them.

Paperbag, unfortunately having secured an ATPL etc is in no way a measure of intelligence, more a measure of how well you can recite the answers....

Agreed, now if you said you had all your SCPLs that might be different!

j3pipercub 16th Apr 2010 11:46

Bwahahahahaha, the worst sort of fresh CPL, the one that thinks cos they're older, is more entitled to a job due to all of their hard work in another industry! In my small time in this industry, I have come across half a dozen guys in your position, half with an attitude that industry owing them something. The other half were great blokes though.

And for a guy who is in his mid 30's, you certainly respond like a Gen Y....

And no, those sorts of comments don't get forgotten on here, if I were you, I'd change my username, or not post for a month or two, let people forget your username.

Citation;

I have friends who work for several of the charter operators in CS, and the hiring seems to still be quite slow up there. Furthemore, as mentioned earlier it is really a 1000hr+ base. I wish you luck on your adventure.

Son you might need to mature a little before you head to the bush or you'll spend a lot of time chasing buckets of propwash and propellor pitch at the hands of ruthless people like LAMEs.

morno 16th Apr 2010 12:56

Awww, I missed all the insults at myself, :(.

Look forward to interviewing you one day paperbag, :E.

WOW, I think I missed a big argument.

J3
cheers for the kind words and yea i have heard that the east coast is more suited for a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th job with most places wanting over 1000TT.
when you say the charter operators that your friends work with who are they (the operators) and what do they think of the other smallers operators such as daintree air (compared to hinterland or westwing).

and my 2 cents on the raw CPLs is that not all of us are brain dead. some of us just want a job and are willing to work as hard and as along as it takes scrubbing dishes at the local pub in an outback town in order to be given the opportunity to fly :)

WannaBeBiggles 17th Apr 2010 07:56

I heard on the grapevine that there was an instructor job going up in Mackay, not quite the 'ville or CS though, but has some nice scenery.

Barberspole-5 17th Apr 2010 08:24

Back on topic

CHARTER
Would suggest Hinterland and Westwing in Cairns.

INSTRUCTING
Would suggest Bob Haris at Innisfail (43nm south of Cairns).

gettin' there 17th Apr 2010 09:59

Hinterland's website says that they are not hiring at the
moment but expect to recruit in "last quarter of 2009"
and westwing's says they require 500 multi and I think 3
renewals?

Anyone Know anything to the contrary? I reckon Cairns
would be a good place to live for a while and both companys
seem to have a good reputation.

I cant give much advice on jobs up North but i can give advice on living there, I am currently doing a Diploma in Aviation in New Zealand but before coming here spent over 8 years living in the best place in Australia Port Douglas. Everything about Far North Queensland is great including the January heat!! The people the scenery the locals the food the fishing everything about it cannot be compared to anywhere else in Australia. At 1st it can be hard to get used to the pace at which us North Queenslanders operate but it will not take long to get into the swing of things. I know when i finish here i will be straight back up north hoping to land a good job!!

frigatebird 20th Jun 2010 12:26

Bl***y kiwiwis..
Why don't you just admit you want to be Aussies.. and amalgamate mate.. (My dad always said Scotland was a good place TO HAVE COME FROM.. but he never expressed a desire to go back when he was grown and had the choice.)
