This was taken at Perth during the pilots strike. I believe she was used on the Argyle Mine run. Does any one have any pics of this old girl from various angles in this colour scheme? (For a modelling project)

Contact John Hardy at Hardy Aviation, as someone had taken a number shots of it in flight for an Airnorth brochure.
Also try the NT Aviation museum.
The book DC-3 Downunder does also have a good colour shot of MMA in that scheme.

A grand old girl indeed. I get shivers down my spine when I hear it fire up...

Thanks Stationaire

and others .. I have a few leads now

Stationair8 18th Apr 2010 06:31

How many DC-3's you planning on building?

Stationair8 19th Apr 2010 07:46

Wonder how the Airnorth guys and girls of today, would go doing the Perth-Argyle run in the old DC-3?

The Green Goblin 19th Apr 2010 11:29

I would have done it in a heart beat :ok:

cac_sabre 20th Apr 2010 09:37

Hiya Stationaire..

well... 3 already built, 1 (VH-TAK) under construction. VH-MMA next then maybe 2 more (Air Niugini and TAA Sunbird) after that I'll call it "quits"

Just in case you are interested, this aircraft commenced life wih the US army and then went on as the first aircraft for MMA in Western Australia and had the same call sign (VH-MMA). It then returned to PNG as P2-ANS and in 1976 went to Maslings (Cootamundra) where it operated charter and on the odd occasion RPT on the Sy-Wlm-Sy route. Its rego then was VH-MWQ. I have a great photo of it sitting on the apron at Lord Howe Island during one of its charters to take the belongings of the new met observer to the island. It then went to Darwin and after a while the rego was again changed to its original Australian rego of VH-MMA.

Thread drift, would that happen to be TBS in the background?

sixtiesrelic 20th Apr 2010 22:36

She flew in PNG as VH-MMA along with MMD,MMF, and MML for some years I Flew her from 1971 to 73 in Ansett PNG colours.
Only MMF came up to us from Perth in her original silver scheme with Mackey Miller on the side. She still had her name Fortescue on the nose.

Thread Drift VH-TBS

Yes I think it is, but I recall her as being reregistered as something C2? Nauru? Romeo November Seven (RN7) I have pictures somewhere if you want them

Stationair8 22nd Apr 2010 07:59

Anyone know the flight time and routing for the DC-3 when it was doing the Argyle run?

Wasn't TBS nicknamed "Too Bloody Short"?

Stationair8 4th May 2010 05:02

Anyone have a photo of Air North's DC-3 VH-CAN?

conflict alert 28th Aug 2010 19:40

Doesn't have the co-pilot's arm sticking out the window as in the top photo. Is that a little harder to do? :}

Dora-9 28th Aug 2010 20:32

My very first "airline office", when she was the gleaming, highly polished bare-metal "RMA Ashburton".

Mind you, they took the arm rests off the FO/s seat to save weight!

Memories!.
