Royal Vic aero club warrior crash landing Moorabbin Airport
 

Tonight around 9pm a royal Vic warrior vh-cgt (same one involved in mid air accident last year) Made a full stop landing short of runway 17L, looks like he's clipped the trees, the piper warrior is up against the fence line of centre dandenong road. Pilot ok so I heard.. :ok:

I was surprised by the number of aircraft in the circuit tonight - at least 5 or 6 at one time, all without the tower active. Early Easter bash, guys ?

Nick, I don't think it is a "Close Moorabbin" case, just another example of the Club's recent history.

Mid air at Coldsteam (very lucky nobody was killed if you've seen the damage).
Mid air at Moorabbin - involving 2x club aircraft; 1 fatal.
PA28 forced landing in a Langwarrin quarry.
C150 forced landing on Crown's golf course after running out of fuel; complete with instructor on board.

And now this :eek:
All within a few short years. . . Makes you wonder a bit.


magpie, I presume from what you've mentioned is that the aircraft is on the Ctr Dande Rd side of the fence, ie outside the airport perimeter fence?

Ramrod, why don't you pull your head in. There is no "common thread" as you so rottenly try to insinuate.

The "Forced Landing in a Langwarrin Quarry" was a crankshaft failure on a virtually new fully overhauled engine.

There is no "C150 Forced landing on Crown 's Golf course" in any ATSB report I can find.

The report on the YMMB accident is yet to be released.

And finally you have no idea what caused yesterdays accident unless you are a psychic.

Furthermore, unless you look at incident numbers per thousand hours flown and statistically compare those figures with other flight training organisations you have no basis in fact whatsoever on which to base your ignorant, stupid and offensive insinuation.


And if I get the chance I'll hire VH-CGT, it's obviously a lucky aircraft.

UPDATE 6.42am: AN elderly pilot who crashed his light plane into a Moorabbin golf course was lucky to escape uninjured after overshooting the runway last night.

The 72-year-old pilot’s Piper Warrior was coming into land from a night flight at 8.45pm when he lost control.

Police say the Beaumaris pilot clipped trees as he approached the runway.

He careered into tea-trees and ended up landing on the Capital Golf Course.

“He’s very lucky it happened during the day,” a police spokeswoman said.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and paramedics treated the man for shock.

Moorabbin Airport will conduct an investigation into the accident.

The plane remains at the scene for the owner to collect.

Had a quick look on webtrak last night and saw the incident happen...aircraft seems to have been doing circuits...landed just short of centre dandenong road...interesting that after the incident, the remaining aircraft in the circuit, specifically a PA27 started doing some funky circuit directions...hard to explain, but if you watch the Melbourne webtrak at about 2038 onwards...

So an aircraft returning from a night flight is lucky because it happens during the day!!!!! Is it just me, or is that more crap reporting ?

Who cares about why just yet. Sounds like he survived, proved the old Warrior is a robust machine still. Just wondering how damaged the aircrat really was...

Interesting that there is no report on the ATSB site about TRVs prang. Do you have an explanation Sunfish?

Correct, there appears to be no report on the ATSBs website about KKWs landing in the golf course. On further inverstigation, it is contained in one of their weekly summaries on the 11th April 2007, however the description mentions that "the pilot reported engine failure".
It was a thread on this forum too at the time, and the last post about this incident points to a dodgy dipstick (so don't read into my 'insinuation' too much. I only found that out putting together this post.)

I may not have the full story and facts behind every one of those accidents/incidents in my mind or at my fingertips and am happy to see information about them.
But tell me, is it not true that those 4 accidents/incidents I mentioned happened?


Havn't seen any photos but Sunny, you might have to wait a while to hire CGT whilst they take out the (possible) bends!

Herald Sun story says '...lucky it DIDN'T happen during the day'.


That should clear up some of the questions about the reporting.

So the poor guy may have goofed up.......he's only human. It is great to hear that he walked away from it, so he didn't do toooo bad.

SKY news STILL reporting it as an 'overshoot'.........while making an approach??

All I got to say is good luck to the engineers that have to recover the aircraft, that looks like thick scrub complete with wildlife

That will buff out.

Generally Sunny that is when you would expect it to fail! After they have done a couple of hundred hours you gain a bit of confidence in the workmanship and materials. We all remember those IO-550 problems a few years back! :eek:
