Pilot cut free after plane crash near Gatton
Any news on this?
|
There are reports of one at Gatton and one at Kilcoy.
Info from Kilcoy, a Savannah, hit a car when taking off on a road, pilot from Glastone. The Gatton one is reported as follows: A pilot is in a critical condition in hospital after being seriously injured when her light plane ditched at Laidley, west of Brisbane. She suffered two broken ankles and cuts to her head and face when the plane crashed in a paddock around midday. The woman was put on life support in a rescue helicopter and was flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital. She will remain on life support and undergo CT scans to assess her head injuries. Investigations will look into why the pilot did not make a distress call before the crash. |
The Gatton one looks very KR-2ish with the aircraft being on the RAAus register.

She has two broken ankles and head injuries but is conscious. A CareFlight spokeswoman said a doctor is in the chopper with the woman and she has been intubated. Reports indicate the single-person plane made an emergency landing in a field at Regency Downs. "(It appears) she's come down ... the wings have come off and the engine's come apart,'' an RACQ CareFlight spokeswoman said. Authorities are yet to advise how she crashed, or why she was flying. No one else was injured. It appears the crash occurred in a vacant field off Lorikeet Rd. Well pardon the fluck outta me, but I didn't realise I needed permission to commit aviation. Why shouldn't she be flying? Because she's a woman? Because flying is only for movie stars? Twats. |
just saw it on the news. Alpi Pioneer maybe?

"(It appears) she's come down ... the wings have come off and the engine's come apart,'' an RACQ CareFlight spokeswoman said. Regardless, hope the pilot recovers well! |

Looks like a Corby Starlet from whats left of it. Hope she recovers fast.
Someone should make a rule that Police, Ambos and fire authorities are forbidden to comment on anything to do with a crash. its bad enough that the journalist's make up their own crap with out quoting these other knowledgeable types. |
light plane ditched at Laidley |
I might join in the journalism prodding;
Investigations will look into why the pilot did not make a distress call before the crash. |
"It appears she's come down"? Well, no sh*t :ugh:

Quote: is conscious. .......she has been intubated. Mutually exclusive in this context..... just another piece of "quality" jounalism |
Awake intubation is indeed possible, and in this context not uncommon |
is conscious. .......she has been intubated Mutually exclusive in this context..... Not necessarily so. Awake intubation is indeed possible, and in this context not uncommon. Some lignocaine spray and a tickle of Ketamine is often required. Hardly "awake" is it! Their eyes might be open but their brain is somewhere "off the planet"! Dr :8 |
With the quality of journalism previously reported I presume a face mask delivering oxygen would count as endotracheal intubation!
Cheers JERR |
"The ATSB have recovered the Flight Data Recorder, and are investigating why the pilot was flying with two broken ankles".
Seriously though, hope she recovers soon.:ok: |
Point was, poor reporting. Also my opinion only. |
A "Corby Starlet" Wizard?????
ahhh....... nope. Nuthin like it. Not even close. |
The accident aircraft is one of a pair built by the lady concerned and her husband at Watts Bridge. They are of their own design and build I believe. They seem to fly OK....except when you have a two stroke Rotax failure and then stall and crash at low level when doing a forced landing.
Thats the best I can offer for now. I had seen them at YWSG a year or two back. J:cool: |
Regardless of engine type , a failure does not cause a stall.
[push,pull,pull,rotate, etc..]:} |
Agreed.........:ok:
