Empty Jets
 
Hey does anyone know about these guys? Emptyjets.com.au, apparently they give you access to repositioning charter flights but you have to pay a $29.95 membership to see flights in the first place which sounds a little doge to me, but still a great concept

These are suppose to be the flights that people missed the opportunity of, and in the general access area prior to registration perhaps to attract people to pay money and register.

I am a registered member and even though I cannot be 100% certain I am sure that I didn't see some of them.

I am pretty sure I would have jumped at the chance to take some friends from syd to mel on a private jet for $336

I know Mr Baldwin and he is 100% legit - I signed our company up straight away.

It's a good opportunity to fill your empty legs, especially if you are ferrying into Syd to do a CHTR and then ferrying home empty again.

Smart operators would build the empty legs into their quoting and then sell them on again for "cream", although I remember another operator, Maitland based, who didn't... with predictable results :rolleyes: :ugh:

From what I read you pay for the whole Aircraft.....I guess then you get some mates and do the divvy up for the flight....this seems to figure from the amounts quoted above however the Feb26 flight on the C650 is a bit confusing....that one looks like the price of a seat, not the whole aircraft hire.....I reckon it'll work...

Don't get me wrong I think the idea is sound and has been done successfully wordwide by haulage companies. It is known as backloading.

I would find it hard to place my trust with the operator, particularly if I was trying to get myself and 7 of my friends or workmates from Mildura to Melbourne at 2pm on Friday the 5th of March for example as you are totally dependent on the party that's chartering the aircraft in the first place. If they are 5 hours late, so are you, it's a flow-on effect, if they cancel, so do you.

Would be interested to hear if the majority of flights go ahead as planned.

As XXX says, if the original customer is late, you are late on your flight.
That is why the cost is only a fraction of what it would normally cost.

If someone wants to hitch a ride cheap, you have no choice but to be flexible.

Is that per person or for the aircraft? because compared to other listed flights for a Citation it seems wrong?

One would argue that $5k for a trip in a Citation X from Sydney to Melbourne was the full market rate!

One would assume that the price would have to be for the whole aircraft as a charter figure versus per seat which would require RPT arrangements.

The system itself as in "EmptyJets . com . au" is a great idea, trouble free and merely links the end-user with the provider of the flight, a little bit like Angel Flight. Unfortunately there's no way to guarantee that the flight in any way represents good value. I hope companies don't try to make market rates out of what started as an empty flight with a view to backloading.

That is the rate for the whole aircraft carrying eight pax from Syd to Mel.

Like I said in my previous post - I never saw it advertised I am afraid and it has made me wonder whether the flight was 'plugged' for marketing purposes rather than being an actual flight. If I had seen it I would have taken it.

Also, XXX you have commented on what I was thinking. It seems that in this case (and others) that the operator is essentially looking to charge full rate for the empty leg....whilst you will never stop this it is not really in the spirit of the site.

Remember...you are paying for a non guaranteed 'standby' flight on the empty leg which no doubt has already been paid for by the Charter customer in full, any revenue obtained through the EmptyJets website is additional revenue = additional profit.

As I said in my previous post the idea has some real merit but it will not work if operators are not able to play by the intent of the website and spirit of the concept.

Also Emptyjets plays no part in the transaction, merely puts you in touch with the operator and collects the money (check the Ts&Cs). You are then required straight away at the time of booking to stump up the cash (hopefully via credit Card...please do not use debit cards as they are unprotected) for a flight that may quite easily get cancelled or re-scheduled but I doubt they would tell you that until they had too so they could keep your money in their account for as long as possible.

Who holds the cash in their account until the flight takes place (or doesn't)?? I wonder??

I wonder how CASA will react to a schedule of sorts being published for "charter" flights. Maybe the fee to access the website sufficiently removes it from being public.

Hi Everyone,

It is great to see the interest in our website (EmptyJets.com.au) and thanks for the comments. Most of the answers to your questions are covered in the FAQ section of the website. We have developed this system for the benefit of aircraft operators and the general public alike and we are happy to be transparent as we believe the system is valuable to everyone.

In response to previous queries, it is up to the operator to nominate the price they wish to receive for the flight, although we do encourage the flights to be listed at as reasonable price as possible, which will help them to sell and be most valuable to the public. Variations to the basic empty leg can be posted, so the operator has to also factor in any additional costs that would arise from carrying out the charter.

We have liased directly to the regulator (who also have a login) to ensure the site does not infringe on any regulatory requirements.

In regards to payment of funds, once the flight is complete the funds are paid immediately to the operator. If the flight is cancelled the customer will receive an immediate refund.
