Qantas B737 Rates of pay

The VB B737 rates of pay were listed on the other thread, what would be the base salary for the QF B737 pilots.
Cheers

G'day Doc.

Check your PMs. Apparently I've let the cat out of the bag!

Wingspar 21st Jan 2010 23:38

At least journo's now have something to work with?

Keg 21st Jan 2010 23:52

If a journo can't find the agreement on Australian Government - Workplace Authority: Home then they're in the wrong industry. Took me about two minutes.

Wingspar 22nd Jan 2010 01:01

Keg

Yes you can get all sorts of information over the net.
The poster asked for rates of pay.
Not only did you tell them that, which is available per your link, you summarized a Qantas 737 pilot group certificate as well which is a little more difficult to find out!

There is some information that people don't want to be made public.

Keg 22nd Jan 2010 01:04

Wingspar, not sure I agree with you but I'll hedge to the conservative side of things and so it's removed.

wombat watcher 22nd Jan 2010 02:36

Just as well, it was mostly wrong anyway.

Keg 22nd Jan 2010 06:01

Really? Taken straight from the current award. 900 hours is 75 a month which I'm told is close to right.

hardNfast 22nd Jan 2010 06:44

So what are they? How did it compare to Virgin FO?

rodrigues 22nd Jan 2010 06:55

Can't for the life of me find anything on that website :O

Then again, I'm not a Journo...

Transition Layer 22nd Jan 2010 07:09

There's a discussion on VB rates of pay here.

QF looks to be about 20% more base pay, obviously both can vary greatly depend how hard the company wants you to work, or how hard you want to work.

You didn't look hard enough! :hmm:

Keg 22nd Jan 2010 10:09

Rodrigues, try here and do a search for Qantas. The answer will be there.

wombat watcher 22nd Jan 2010 10:21

Keg,
you are so full of your own bullsh**t.

F/o's are lucky to do 70 hours a month less the 6 weeks pa leave they have. Even you are not that bad at maths, that you can't convert it to a pa figure. If we're doing 900 hrs pa we would be much happier as would the management so please can your inaccurate cr*p.:=:=:=:=

rodrigues 22nd Jan 2010 10:29

Many thanks.

Keg 22nd Jan 2010 13:02

Oh FFS wombat watcher. My original comments included this phrase:

...plus or minus a bit would be in the ball park.
So this year the divisor is back at 70 hours a month which means 840 pay hours for the year. I'm out by just under 7%. In previous years the divisor has been above 75 hours so that means they would get paid more than the numbers I've quoted. On that basis I'd maintain that my original statement of '900 pay hours plus or minus a bit' is a fair statement. Perhaps you can put forward an alternative version instead of just hurling the insults.

So let's look at your annual leave comment. Last I knew, 737 drivers get paid for annual leave. I haven't read the award in depth but I suspect that they get divisor pay. If that's the case and the divisor is 75 every month of the year then that's what they're going to get on those six weeks leave also. Twelve months with the divisor at 75 is going to give you 900 hours pay. Of course your stick hours will be closer to 800 for that pay given your month and a half on annual leave.

To sum up so far, I put a post up which you branded as 'mostly wrong' but don't elaborate as to what exactly was wrong with it. I ask you as to where the error may be. Your response is to tell me I'm full of BS and then point out that I've used a lessor divisor that whilst correct for most previous years, is incorrect for this year.

If this means my original comments were 'mostly wrong' then you must be perfect. In that case I bow to your obviously superior intellect and I accept my place in the world as a complete numpty. I await your great wisdom as you put forward the required corrections instead.

Given our respective contributions to this thread I'm pretty comfortable as to which of us is full of crap and which of us isn't. I wonder if that can be determined from Qrewroom contributions also. :E

QF 737 leave pay is determined by the average credit per month for the previous 12 months achieved by the individual, not divisor. If you fly heaps then you also receive more in terms of holiday pay. Some pilots can achieve 1100 plus credit hours per year. Probably close to 1000 hours stick however to achieve this. Bigger pay numbers than a lot of longhaul brethren, but significantly more efficient for the company. The most flight deck duty time achieved by any group in QF is done in the 737. The pay rate which is relatively high is for stick time only and at risk during a downturn or disruption. For the moment the hours are down 20% so I am selling the kids. We are only guaranteed 58 hours per month.

What I cannot understand is, why would a jounalist care what pilots get paid these days, when more important things like the bonuses of Bank employees and CEO's are highlighted in the papers??? This gets a more angry reaction from the public and hence gets more interest.

Our profession is a joke and has been totaly ripped apart in the past 15 years thanks to politicians, CEO's and many others. As one who has made it the the 4 bars, i would say, it aint what it was when i started out. An illusion, a false oasis. It's sad, but true! I should be a journalist so I can publish crap, but unfortunately I am too honest, hence this piece!
