Have recently put up an advert on AFAP wanting instructors, can anyone tell me anything about them?

Yeah....they're hiring...

Anyone recieved a reply? Type of experience applying?

I applied with 320TT, instructing time, ME(C)IR, ATPL's... Don't fancy my chances, sounds like a lot of Instructors out of work.

Just make sure you get everything in writing. But I guess that applies to everyone these days.

There have been instances in the past with this employer of Casual Instructors having their students taken off them and given to full time instructors. Thing is, the casual guys were the ones that went back through the in-active student file and got these students to come flying again...

If you get offerred a job, make sure its full time and make sure you see it in writing before you pack up the car and drive to Canberra.

Whats the CFIs background, airlines etc?...anybody know?

Ex RAAF, then GA instruction, then regional airlines, as I understand it.

Not sure about the RAAF bit.... but has been CFI of large flight schools in the past.

All instructors are casual employed. Even the few full time instructors are now casual as well.

You must be new to GA as hard work is not always rewarded and quite often not even noticed.

Or other times seen as being lazy/doing the wrong thing. What a great industry :}

As for the CFI, he has belted round GA for a while, RPT piston company, big training outfits, even owned a couple of aircraft and is a nice fella. :)

If they are employing casually, make sure it suits. Forget about the Metro or J41, as your job is an instructors' one. That's All you can ever expect. :mad: The opportunities will come when you have the runs on the board. :ok:

The sniff of Kero will allow companies to employ people on a casual basis, that otherwise they would not be able to. Sounds like these are Full-time jobs and the company wants flexibility with it's workforce. J41s' and Metros' allow them to employ casually, as Pilots will accept Casual, thinking they will get on the kero sooner or later. :confused:

If Mum and Dad can fund you, or you are rich and can support yourself, sound like a great opportunity as a Casual Instructor with Carrot prospects :p

In the past it has been Bare Bones GA award :rolleyes:

They dangled the carrot of turbine to a good friend of mine for 18months. Promising him J41 cmd without giving him a single hour in either of the turbines. In fact very little flying at all. Heard of a lot of pay issues downgrading good staff etc etc. That was all about 2 years ago though. Maybe things have changed.

Who would offer a Command on the J41 or Metro, to someone with no multi crew and no turbine time, let alone no RPT experience?

Not Brindabella, and no other reputable RPT operator I know of.

Have we put any of their instructors into the airline?

Yes. 7 have gone over in the past 3 years.

One didn't make it through the endorsement (ended up worling for Macair as a capt on the Saab :ooh:), 3 have moved on, one is a training captain on the Metro, one is doing a Metro command upgrade in Jan, and the last is an FO on the J41.

Finally, We have just upgraded Robbie to make it 8. He is currently doing his endorsement and will start flying in Jan.

You put the effort in, and do the job properly as in instructor and show some initiative, and it will happen.

You do the job half-heartedly and just sit back and expect it to happen, then it never will.

At Brindabella promotions are earned, they not automatic.

Now back to the thread..

I think we both know who I'm talking about and he's still not happy about being :mad: around.

Yes, and the rest of the guys who chose to maintain their dignity and keep their pants on have left the company and moved on to lead more prosperous and rewarding careers with bigger and better operators flying more powerful and faster aircraft. No thanks to brindabella and that infamous carrot of theirs.

My advice to the newbies. Get a job with this company and take everything you need from them. Promise them everything and deliver nothing. Treat them no better than you would the scum of the earth and then piss off without warning. Then, they will know how it feels...

The most important thing for a professional pilot is his/her attitude. No-one wants to sit next to a massive ego on RPT let alone anywhere else! :ugh:
