JAR/UK Class 1 medical in Australia?
Does anybody know if you can do a JAR or UK medical in Australia?

Have a look on the UK CAA web site. They list overseas AME's & their contact details.

Aussie-based UK CAA DAMEs
I need to renew my UK Class 1.
The UK CAA website no longer shows ANY Australian-based DAMEs. Does anyone know what the story is? I know Dr Chaffey in BNE used to have approval. I rang his office and they knew nothing about the situation (and he is currently away ill). I'm sure there also used to be one or two listed in SYD and MEL but I can't remember their names. CASA AvMed were no help. I will call CAA at Gatwick later tonight but if anyone has any info in the meantime it would be greatly appreciated. PG |
Auckland is the closest AFAIK. Just a short plane ride away!

Closest is AKL?!?!?
Thanks, yes I see there are 2 listed at Remuera in Auckland.
Does that seem a bit bizarre? Not ONE in Australia any more? PG |
Who are the DAMEs in Auckland? Cheers.

CAA AMEs in AKL
According to the CAA Website there are 2 in AKL.
AME Search Results | Medical | Personal Licences and Training 10184 Dr W L Daniels Remuera Doctors 320 Remuera Road PO Box 28-306 Remeura AUCKLAND New Zealand Tel: +64 9 524 6504 Fax: +64 9 524 7793 10404 Dr A R Wiles Remuera Doctors Ltd Airlie Court 320 Remuera Road Remuera Auckland New Zealand PC 1050 Tel: +64 (9) 524 6504 Fax: +64 (9) 524 7793 [email protected] Dr T English used to do UK Medical Renewals at his practice in Spring St, Sydney. No longer there but I tracked him down at Orange, NSW. Unfortunately he's not doing UK Medicals anymore. Same for Dr G Rowe that was at Miranda Medical Centre. I'm not sure where he is now but the practice confirmed he was no longer there doing CAA Medicals anymore. So unless someone has any recent info to indicate otherwise it looks like AKL is the closest place to go for a UK renewal. PG PS. I'll update info here once I've spoken to CAA in LGW. |
Or Singapore if you are on the west coast or NT

No CAA AMEs in Oz anymore!
Just spoke to CAA Medical Branch at Gatwick.
Unfortunately no UK-certified AMEs here in Australia anymore. :{ Sounds like an opportunity for a nice little earner for an enterprising doctor! PG |
I heard from an ex-JAA AME that the JAA/EASA made it so hard and expensive for them to retain the qualification that it was not worth the hassle.
They had to travel to the EU once a year for a several week course. He said that the treatment was like having to resit final year medical exams and he could do wothout that thank you. Go to Dr Medora in Singapore or Dr Sagoo in KL. I think both can do CASA, FAA and UK/EASA - thats what I do in one hit - alternating 6 monthly as required. RO |
