Australian Air Express
Hey guys.
Just wondered if anyone knew much about Australian Air Express? I am after clarification on the use of their 727's, are they still in use if so what routes do they use them on? |
Nope - all gone (727's).
DHE (TCA) is the only one left! (VH- registered, anyway). |
Australian Air Express is a joint venture between QF and Australia Post.
Australian Air Express aircraft are (or B727s at least were) operated by National Jet. Were replaced by older QF 737-400s that they couldn't sell. At least one of the B727s was cut up as QF didn't want any competition. |
Routes used to be Perth - Melbourne return. Also used one or two on an East Coast run from Cairns to Hobart, but not sure of landing points between (Melbourne was one).
|
My understanding is they have sold their last 727.

Vector,
I think you will find that the AAE jets (737 classics) are operated by Express Freighters (owned by QANTAS). AAE also sub-contract Pel-Air Aviation. (using Saab's at least...not sure if the Metro's are still used for those runs). S |
Unconfirmed third hand rumour that a couple of ex QF 767s originally planned for the desert may be going to AAe. I don't expect they will be crewed with excess QF 767 crew! :suspect: Rather, they'll employ newbies on 2/3 of the QF pay rate and then complain about the fact that QF has too many 767 crew for the available flying.
