The Ultimate Warbird SU-27 Flanker

Got an email today.

Pride Aviation in the US has 2 SU-27 UB Flankers for sale for around 6 million USD.

Would CASA allow a private individual (and before anyone starts, with the appropriate skills, experiance and training) to own and fly such a beast.

Someone told me that only the military is able to operate afterburning turbojets in Oz due noise restrictions.

True or not?

I like your enthusiasm. I'm sure the civil Mig 21 that gets around the airshow circuit has a/b.

That's been advertised in a few places for a number of weeks now:ok: Unfortunately I think it was imported on the condition that it never leave the US :(

I imagine that ATC would be impressed when you climbed 50000+ feet in the first minute or hit Mach 1.8

I was at the NBAA convention a few weeks ago and a fellow from PHX had a very nice Shorts Tucano T.Mk1 for sale.

"The Queen is, like everyone else, downsizing," she said. His wife said they had bought 22 with options to buy more when they become available.

Cost start at around $1 mil and go up according to the equipment installed.

At another conference, the head of the National Test Pilots' School was a presenter and as many know, the NTPS has one or two Drakens they use in their training. I asked him about the others at Newport News. He said those were imported in the US with the understanding they would never be flown and when they were, that got the Swedes really bent.

And for cheap, you can pick up an IL-78 in Michigan. It had been in TX and was reportedly headed back to Europe when Canada refused entry into Canadian airspace. It landed in Marquette MI at the old USAF SAC base of KI Sawyer. Most of the crew had expired visas and an FBO in TX placed a lien on the airplane.

I recall a mate went for a ride in the L39 up Victor 1. They were playing around off the coast near Wollongong VFR scooting around at breakneck speeds. The controller "casually" called them up asking what their aircraft type was. Without looking at a map perhaps they were within 50nm Syd at 250+ knots which would have aroused attention.

PC-9s will be up for sale within the next few years. Still, can't beat a Merlin!
