Flight bag stolen
 

I have recently had my flight bag stolen from my car by some drop kick you will certainly throw it in the bin when he/she realizes that they can’t sell anything inside for crack money. Had the usual items inside, headset, ASIC card, medicals and licenses, nav equipment and the rest. I was just interested if anyone else has been through this before and what sort of time period I would be looking at for replacement documents and ASIC card.

How did the person manage to steal your stuff unless you didn't lock the door :confused:
Anyway that sucks big time, I would be super pissed.

Cars at GA airports, including the likes of the GAAP variety, are very vunerable.
I went away onite to come back and find a brick in the front seat of mine. Nothing in there to collect other than about 12 bucks in change.

For all the friggin landing fees we pay and they are always on the up, one would think that we could have some sort of secure area to park our cars.

Can't help you with the time frame, only that going into the CASA office and talking to them face to face might be quicker.

Anyway back to answering Kippers7's question, (as much as we all have stories to tell about break-ins etc).
I had my licences stolen with my crew bag once, 20 odd years ago. It involved getting a new licence from the department. I had to sign a statuatory declaration, in effect saying the licence was stolen. The department issued a new one, with a comment in the licence saying that this replaces the licence issued XX/XX/19XX and subsequently declared lost. At every interview I went to after that one one of the interviewers would comment in a disbelieving manner, "you lost your licence did you". It was a bit embarrassing. I was glad when the new licences came out. I still have that licence somewhere. Seeing as you have to carry your licence with you whenever you fly I think you should let CASA know straight away, they will give you some sort of covering letter.
The Asic card is very important report it Immediately.
Other stuff is a shame and annoying, unfortunately there is no real easy solution for dickheads.
They are out there.

Just look, the National Counter-Terrorism Alert has been upgraded as some terrorist could be holding your ASIC card right now.....

Get it reported and renewed ASAP, just like the rest of your stuff. No chances on getting it back IMO.

Mate, give some thought to getting onto ebay, traderpost etc.

Members can normally rig these things to send you an email when something youre interested in is listed. Make like your in the market for a headset the same as you lost.

Be interesting to see if theres any new listings that could match.

i had mine stolen about 7 years ago. Reported it to the local Mr Plod. Giot a phone call about 24 hours later saying it had been found, dumped somewhere .... minus the maglite.
new lock on car cost me $80.

I had this happen to me recently - Car window smashed in and flight bag stolen! Lost everything. :{
Took me a while and alot of hassle to get it back.

Licence - $25 and takes the usual CASA time to get it back, 2-6 weeks

Medical - its not done through CASA so they dont charge you anything, just give em a call and they send it back out to you real quick!

ASIC - gotta sign a stat dec and pay $85 for a new one to be sent out, takes a while prob about 4 weeks.

Log Book - now you dont want this to get stolen - SO BACK IT UP! i had most of mine backed up so was a matter of getting it filled out again and stamped and signed and that sucks.

cimore000, very unhelpful. Usually when thieves steal from cars they break into them. Forced entry, smashed window etc. People like you who obviously think their gear is safe with the doors locked need a lesson in common sense!

What a blinkered view!

I've had my navbag nicked twice, once from my LOCKED car and once from my lounge room. Both times it was dumped close by, presumably once the miscreants realised that it didn't contain medicines or easily saleable items. I'd be looking in reasonably close by garden beds, hedges, alleys, building sites and the like.

In all, my LOCKED car's been broken into three times. :mad:

a rottweiler or pitbull or other such creature sitting in the car deters this,
