Fear of Flying Courses
 

Friend of mine has long term fear of flying. Does anyone in the Melbourne area know of organisations or individual specialists who run Fear of Flying Courses and the costs involved? Also what is the success rate of those who have attended?

Melbourne Skydive Centre, about $370 :E

The Qantas course is Fearless Flyers Inc with Qantas

Appears to cost $900. No idea about success rates.

My other half just bought the fear of flying book which is based on the Qantas course. She's half way through it and it honestly seems to have helped her a lot. Cost around $10 + $20 to freight from the US from Amazon if I recall correctly. It written by someone that did the course, but goes into great detail about Qantas and talks of the training required to work for Qantas etc, so if you want to fly on any other airline, the reader won't want to because they know they won't be anywhere near as good as Qantas (in theory).

PS: I didn't give her the fear in the first place, thank GO Airlines for that :ugh:

See if He/She would be interested in a Trial Instructional Flight. It might sound crazy, but it did the trick for me :ok:, Seeing what happens to an aircraft when control inputs are manipulated can go along way to easing that fear of the unknown.

I have also heard the Qantas course is quite good, and another website I came across when I had a fear was the Ask Captain Lim website. There was alot of irrelevant stuff on there, but also some fairly relevant things as well. I also remember a good thread floating around on here that I remember reading but cannot for the life of me find it now.

The Australian Woman Pilots Association used to facilitate Fear of Flying courses. Not sure if they still do, but worth a follow up. Their success rate was above 90% I recall.

My "nervous flyer" friends say it's well worth reading and has helped them overcome their high (altitude) anxiety.
