Cheapest Place To Purchase LightSpeed Zulu

Anyone have any good sources, seems like the prices have skyrocketed recently. Lowest I have found is on www.aeroshop.com but I have to confirm the price it's advertised @ 1080$AUD. Everyone else seems to be dreaming at around 1450$AUD

Thanks Guys.

lightspeed ZULU details - Mendelssohn Pilot Supplies.

I paid $1050.00 a few months ago but the dollar was a lot higher, by the way it will change your life.

I just got a pair of 'em from marvgolden in the USA. Seemed everyone here was out of stock and raising prices like crazy.
All up it cost about $1405 including postage/customs etc.
headset came to $1300 just with the exchange rate. the exchange rate was about 66.35cents at the time.

dollar is stronger at the moment, so headset will only cost you $1185~ from there (excluding postage etc.)

Yeah, I called AeroShop, nice bloke, sounds like they cannot access their website to update it.

I ended up paying $1445 from Concept Aviation, which seems the going rate and it will be at my door in only a few days.:}

Have you made any phone calls with it on your head anyone? What do you think of your headset so far Pyro.

Yep, and its freakin' awesome. Call quality is brilliant, the person on the other end just thinks you're using a car kit or one of those in ear handsfree kits. Coupled with a NextG blue tick phone and you get coverage above 5000' over a massive area of the country (which is nice where I am).

I too am in area 80. Hey so is it Telstra Next G I need? I have bloody vodafone still so I need to get another sim card for flying as the other one is locked on a plan for 8 more months.

I have a N95

Hasselhof 8th Jan 2009 02:22

I don't know if the N95 is a NextG compatible phone. A NextG sim will work in it, however once its out of GSM range you might get into trouble. Most guys I know up here have either a Samsung SGH-A411 or SGH-A412 (the 411 is the prepaid version, the 412 can be bought outright or on a monthly plan, otherwise they are the exact same phone) which is a country "Blue Tick" phone meaning that it has far better coverage in bush areas. I got my 412 for about $110 not too long ago on eBay and has been well worth it. Either way, you'll actually need a NextG compatible handset (meaning it uses the NextG network, not the GSM network) as telstra is only providing NextG out on communities.

So far I've gotten mine to work on the ground at YBTI, YSNB, YGPT, YCKI, YGBI, YELD, YRNG, YMGB, YMGD, YPGV, YGTE, YNUM, YNGU, YBRL, YMHU, YTNK, YPTN, YBCR, and obviously YPDN. The better part is that I've been able to get coverage at 5000' in most areas, and coverage at 9500' pretty much everywhere. Coupled via bluetooth to a lightspeed and its great if you lose your radio, need to submit a flight plan amendment, need to contact your destination or even company ops while out in the sticks. Have even taken charter bookings while in the cruise which is far better than having customers diverted through to message bank.

How do you know when it rings if in flight?
John

Hasselhof 8th Jan 2009 02:39

Once you're connected via bluetooth, when the phone rings you get a series of tones come through the headset. To answer you just press the bluetooth button on the headset battery box rather than having to dig around to find your phone. To make a call you can just use the handset, or alternatively set up (I think 10) voice activated speed dial numbers by pressing the bluetooth button again and saying the name of the person you want to call. I haven't used that function of it yet as I just keep my phone in my pocket.

Thanks for the info

VH-XXX 9th Jan 2009 21:36

The N95 and N96 are QUAD band versus the old TRI band, therefore they are compatible with NEXT-G. Some others like the 6110 Navigator are only TRI band so be careful when purchasing. QUAD band is better for the US I believe if you're on tour.

Quote - "I purchased my set directly from Lightspeed Aviation, $850US or about AU$1210 plus another AU$60 for postage via FedEx. There customer service is also fantastic."

Did you have to pay a "Customs Opening Fee" of A$50-00 as well as gst?
I find getting stuff sent by UPS etc there is a Kev Rudd rip off of a Customs openning fee just so they can then add GST.
