Forced Jetstar Head Office Annual Leave over Xmas

Is anyone up to date with the legality of Jetstar's new CEO enforcing annual leave on Head Office staff between 29/12/08 - 2/1/2009 (four days entitlement)?

kotoyebe 16th Dec 2008 10:27

Who is going to dump their pax onto big brother when their planes break down during that leave?

blow.n.gasket 16th Dec 2008 10:40

I didn't think kids on work experience were even entitled to annual leave?:ok:

Horatio Leafblower 16th Dec 2008 10:46

I wonder what they'd all be saying if the company demanded that they work that period?

It's not as if they're counting Sat and Sun as Leave, too.

Enjoy the week off!

Jabawocky 16th Dec 2008 10:53

Many businesses have forced leave over that period usually three days of it. Forced is not really the word, everyone wants it and some a week or two more.

Find something else to worry about.

Watchdog 16th Dec 2008 11:21

I'd be quite happy to have those days off EVERY year! Where do I sign? :ok:

Keg 16th Dec 2008 13:53

If it's any consolation I asked for time off over that period and was told 'no'. I'll trade if you like. :E

Hey Blow, All the kindies are shut down too, where will they go?

Muff Hunter 16th Dec 2008 20:21

and they still think that's overstaffed......:ugh:

And head office staff fix aircraft how????

If you work for the tax office, they encourage you to take time off over Xmas-new year, but guess what, you don't have to dip into your accrued rec leave to do it. It's freeeeeeeeeeee!

Where do I sign up for that!

dodgybrothers 17th Dec 2008 11:22

boo hoo, the rest of us would dearly love to take rec leave over christmas.

VH-XXX 17th Dec 2008 21:28

This thread appears around the same time every year. It's standard industry practice. My employer copped us for 7 days forced and those that haven't been here long enough it's taken as un-paid leave. It's about being lucky to have a job right now!

Tidbinbilla 17th Dec 2008 22:02

Many companies have shutdowns over the Christmas break. Building companies, for example have a 4-6 week close down.

It is quite normal, and not an infringement of anybody's rights.

Hope they enjoy what, for some is a privilege this time of year.
