How do you order an engine.
 

Most engines here in Oz are overhauled, but who knows how many times etc etc, if mrs nmc says, buy a factory new one from Lycoming this time. Whats the process. I cant find any Lycoming reps in Oz.

Do most maintennce organisations handle this for you. What about the core credit, do you have to arrange your own shipping of the old engine back to the states, or can the whole process be organised my the MRO.

I'm not overhauling any more engines, the latest one has taken nearly 6 months :mad: with parts and labour shortages and have had three cracked crankcases this year.:{

Not a huge difference in cost these days between overhaul and factory rebuild.

The exchange rate should be pumping a few new engine cores into Aus I should think.

Word on the strip is that for many "seasoned" AC it's cheaper to buy a replacement AC than two new donks. Hmmm ferry work?

Actually, whilst on the topic does anybody know where I can get my hands on a display engine (old one that's been painted in pretty colours and the cut in two)? I really need a paperweight that lets EVERYONE know that I'm a pahlut.

ok, is there any thoughts on the difference beween a factory zerotime overhaul (reman) and a brand new engine. Seems like about 6k difference in price.

In otherwords is the 6 k worth it for a new engine over a fctory remanufactured but zero time.

I've got a 2 litre petrol lump out of a 1988 Ford Sierra in the shed. The air filter's missing, but I reckon it'll be right once you've twatted all the rust off. :E

Mate of mine just ordered a factory reman engine for his Cherokee 180 at YRED through the Aviall/Lycoming dealer (based in NZ) and it came with a new case and roller cams etc. Significantly improved engine over the core he is returning. The returned core is sent to Sydney and then you get your core deposit back. When there are enough cores to fill a shipping container the whole lot are shipped back to the US. The main point though is you are only shipping the core as far as Sydney.

RVAC at Moorabbin has been ordering exchange new/overhauled Lycoming engines thru Aviall, with the updated stronger cases & roller rockers, and returning their old cores. Its been cheaper and quicker doing it that way, and Aviall at Moorabbin are the ones to speak to regarding it all.

They probably did it due to the dollar being equal a while ago, but have exchanged quite a few in their fleet now. No old AD's and modern parts guareenteed. ... just so whatever is viable at time i reckon...

Recently I was searching around for a core and some cylinders to cobble up as a teaching aid for my students, so was looking for somethubg rusted out, essentially scrap that I could tart up.

But.........apparentlky the metal used in a core is of such prime quality that they fetch over 5 grand at a scrap metal yard. Thats what i was told at least.

Much more valuable than copper it would seem.

Ordering an engine thru Aviall is the go but if you dont have a acct with them you will get charged a lot more.Just remember most places whant a up front deposit and they calculate the exchange rate the day the engine clears customs.Avialls price normally includes freight for new engine and core to cross the pond.You have to pay to get your core to Aviall branch in OZ

I have recently received three factory remanufactured exchange engines through Hawker Pacific - good service at good prices - more than I could say about Aviall.
