One freshly minted CPL.
 

Leaving Vic this tuesday, heading up the centre en-route to Darwin. 215hrs, nvfr, twin rating. Going to try as many Darwin operators as I can and any operators in Kakadu. Am ideally after a basing where I'm not too far from my better half whom may get a little lonely...:sad:, and a place that has opportunity for her too. After looking at those areas I shall 'go west' and keep venturing. Adiós :)

drop past YSBK, and do an hour or so in the C210 there for hire if you havent all ready got time on 200 series cessna, im sure that'd help out with the employers outback...

Good luck with the bases if they hire you...Most operators send you out to remote bases and you gotta stay there 6 months minimum or so until they call you back to big city or put you up in twin..so prepare for the culture shock and gotta get use to the long distance relationship for a while..unless she comes and join you otherwise you just gotta do your time like we all do (some)..This is the good time, about to start wet season soon so they'll be hiring..Also try Kunnanarra..Good luck and always good to see another one of us about to walk the same road.

Landof4x, lets be very clear - I dont own any aircraft.. below are some lines from a couple of the ads on the AFAP job site. Perhaps im not the only one that thinks a couple hundred dollars on a 210 could be well spent. The original post did ask for "IDEAS" which was what i gave him.... heaven forbid someone suggests that a little money spent may be an advantage up there..... what is the world coming to.

It would be a great advantage if the Pilot had Cessna 200 series time.

* C210 or PA32 experience preferred (Central Airlines Ad)

The advantage in the current climate is just being there in the first place. I'm meeting a lot of guys up this way that somehow got their jobs in the Territory without having left the east coast until the ink was dry. The ones that turn up in person looking seem to get the first preference for having "taken the leap" which in of itself earns some respect.

You don't need any 200 series time.

Thanks everyone for the positivity. This plan has been a while coming to fruition! For those of you that are reading in envy;), keep up the training. It seems only a short while ago I was reading these posts and getting itchy feet and day dreaming! :)

No disrespect to FlyCessna but the entry level jobs listed on AFAP are indicative of probably less than .05% of real first jobs out there. I never saw having an hour or two in a C210 help anybody score a test flight. It may make some slight difference in handling one but on that note rvert1 and elche check your PMs.

not only did i not have 200 series time but i had not one high wing hour and yes i got a job on a high wing and then a 200 series.

Listen to hasselhoff as he is actually doing it.

Living the dream mate, living the dream. Getting used to NT time again and it already feels like the build up is starting where I am, but the hours are going in the logbook and I'm getting paid to have fun.

Hassel, there are some aspects i do miss yes. But others not!

Its the ultimate learning experience and the ultimate in adventure in some ways.

Make sure you enjoy it take photos and films and stay safe. Once you leave you will never see it again.

The good thing for you and others these days is that you don't need to sit there wondering if you will ever get out. So enjoy the sights knowing it;ll work out in the end.

If you are driving up through QLD to get to the top end, please let me suggest you fill some jerry cans in Mt Isa, as last fuel in Camooweal will force you to sell your ass to pay the bill! ($2.50/litre when I was there 2 months ago)
