phraseologies latitude and longitude

Does anyone know the correct phraseologies for latitude and longitude - ie when making a position report (or TIBA in Aust :) :0

Also any references for this in either AIP or Jepps either Aust or the WWT? I have searched AIP and can't find any reference to how to make a lat and long radio call.

AIP GEN 3.4 - 104

POSITION [latitude, longitude]
Not particularly helpful really, but AIP ENR 1.10 - 17 says the format for flight planning is:

1300S14335E
This adds up to: "POSITION ONE THREE, ZERO ZERO SOUTH, ONE FOUR THREE, THREE FIVE EAST..."

Some pilots pronounce it the way they punched it into the dashboard with decimal minutes (or is it seconds), leading with the N/E/W/S. Annoying but acceptable.

G'day Blueloo,

I vaguely remember reading a NOTAM re position report phraseology accross the Pacific, I'll try and track it down next time I go to work, Tuesday next. It might have a reference in it.

Just a thought though, the person copying your position report mught be typing it into a keybour similar to an FMC and so N/S xx xx.x E/W xxx xx.x might be easier to transcribe than numbers then letters.

Regards,
BH.

have a look at the Jepp Met section (yes I know!) there is the format for reports....

Thanks all - i'll have a look at those AIP references and the Jepp Met section.

Was the reference to phraseology accross the Pacific a company provided notam, or general notam?

Not sure what the background is behind your query blueloo, but Lat/Long format (as displayed on the charts) would be a good starting point!

A general NOTAM blooloo.

This may come as a shock, but the format a lat/long is entered in the flight plan is the way it is displayed in ATC displays. If receiving a position report on an aircraft that has submitted a flight plan ATC will be comparing it to that in our displays so the flight plan format would be preferred, but not essential. If we have to punch it into the system we have to enter it in flight plan format. If you are swayed by bullethead's input the decimal minutes and NEWS first IS NOT what ATC would prefer
