Converting FAA CPL to CASA ?
 

Hey all,this is my first post here.. I'm interested in converting my FAA CPL IR to australian ones.. I found the following info on the basair website.. But i couldnt find the cost of the entire process. i think GFS has something on their site which said that i had to fly 2 to 3 flights of 3 hrs each..can someone tell me how much it would cost in total??Thanks :)Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL):You must pass an Australian Class One Aviation medical examination. Doctors are located in other countries as well as Australia - you can find their contact details here. You must complete a conversion examination - CPL Overseas Conversion examination. You can sit this examination at a limited number of sitting sessions only. You must then undertake training to reach the CPL flight test standard. Most people will take around 3 to 5 flights, each one around 3 hours to reach the required standard. These will normally be conducted over 6 or 7 days. You will then undertake the full Australian CPL flight test. This is a VFR flight simulation a charter exercise. The flight is around 4- 5 hours in length and will cover general handling, as well as visual navigation. Please note - the navigation component has only very limited radio navigation component - it is almost all visual navigation. This flight test must be conducted in an aircraft with a constant speed propeller plus a cruise speed of at least 120kt (i.e. Tobago or higher). "

Initial Class 1 Medical $500-$700

BAK knowledge test $130

Books for the knowledge test $250+

ATO fees and cost of airplane ?

CASA fees to process as per their forms online.

ASIC fees $196 (you need this for issue of a license, even if you don't intend to work).

English test $125

You will need to submit a VERIFIED (JP etc) copy of your logbook, or relevant endorsements. I got 3 different requests from 3 numpties at CASA, and eventually got most of my aircraft types converted - but as I did not send copies of many hours shown for many types flown, they only "gave" me recognition for some aircraft. So if your logbook isn't too thick, copy the whole thing....

Verified copies of your FAA certificates, and some more $ so CASA can verify them again from the US.

Go to the CASA web site and look up licences. there is whole section there on converting licences.

My CAA CPL was a fair bit easier than you mention, but I think CASA and UK CAA have an areement of some sort.

Now for the ATPL, well tahts a different story !!!!

Wow,Thanks you guys.. I actually plan on doing a flight instructors course in australia. I want to be a ground instructor as well..Any chance i can get a work permit after i complete my course? cos i think it'll take 3 months max for the course..or do i have to be a permenant resisdent?are foriegners allowed to work as flight instructors in australia?thanks again

Actually want to train/fly in aussie cos the word is in india that the QUALITY of training and flying in aussie is really good. That very tough standards have to be met..

so was thinking i can smoothen some(lot :P) of my rough edges..

Seriously? Is it really that much these days?

Now, my question is does the applicant also need to apply for foreign licence validation first in the first place?
