Pilot dies in plane crash, two injured
INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into a light airplane accident that resulted in the death of a pilot, and two passengers injured.
The private airplane crashed last Thursday near Lake Myola while approaching the Kokoda Track in inland Koiari, Central province.
Reports said the injured, who were the only passengers on board, were airlifted to Port Moresby more than three hours after the accident.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Chris Kens, a pilot with the Lae-based North Coast Aviation, who was flying a Cessna 206, allegedly owned by a Capt Joe Maule.
When confirming the details last Friday, Transport’s air safety regulations director Wilson Sagati said the plane was on a run around the Goilala area to Yongi from Port Moresby.
He said it was travelling back to the city from Yongi when the pilot lost contact with air traffic control before crashing near Lake Myola at around 10am last Thursday.
Accident details are still unknown.
A search and rescue effort was initiated and the crash site was located at about 1.45pm. The survivors were airlifted to Port Moresby.
The Civil Aviation Authority could not be reached for comments.

Oh Dear. As far as I know, Joe isn't a captain. And I suspect the aircraft wouldn't have been insured......Etc. :(

Insured!?!?! Who gives a Sh*t! Some poor son/father just bit the dust!

Sincerest condolences.

Actually, I think after the grief has settled a little, the family would appreciate some form of air carrier liability......It was with that in mind when I posted that comment.
sincerest condolences to family and friends.

"when the pilot lost contact with air traffic control"

Unfortunately not terribly hard to do in that part of the world. :=

Deepest condolences to family and friends of the deceased.

Dead pilot wasn’t ours: North Coast
NORTH Coast Aviation yesterday said the pilot killed in a plane crash in Central province last Thursday was not one of its employees.
North Coast chief pilot Jeff Thiele said the deceased, Chris Kens, was a former employee and had, on occasions, gained unauthorised access to the company’s airport shed.
The National yesterday reported that Kens was a pilot with North Coast Aviation.
Air safety regulations of the Department of Transport had indicated last Friday that the deceased had flown under the logo of North Coast Aviation.
Kens crashed near Lake Myola while approaching Kokoda Track in inland Koiari.
The survivors’ identities are still unknown.
Reports said Kens was flying a private plane, a Cessna 206. The plane was returning to Port Moresby from Yongi in Goilala when it crashed.
