Dalays at YSSY Wednesday 6/8/98 around 6.15 pm

Does anyone know what caused the delays. My gf was traveling on VB departing Sydney. They pushed out at 6.15 then held on the taxiway for for 20 mins before departing, apparently the captain made a PA saying that there was a class 1 medical emerancy at the airport and they had to wait for it to land. She could see several other aircraft holding close by as well.

I thought even a med 1 flight had traffic operating normally around it, just had the highest priority. Maybe Nicole Kidmans G5 was arriving too around the same time, but being a private flight they wouldnt hold normal ops for them I gathger?

Any ideas.......just curious more than anything.

Does it really take 20 minutes to land one aeroplane?

Sorry, can't remember that far...:p:p

I can't remember what I was doing 6/8/98. The older I get.......

A MED1 is a reasonable excuse. By the time another circuit is done and priorities to land/takeoff are sorted out 20 mins can easily disappear.

It could have been a Med1 chopper operating across the departure path. That would mean no one could depart, and the 737 could have been down the list of departures.

Nicole , Keith and Sunday Roast came in about an hour later.

I thought that 20mins taxiing at YSSY during the evening rush was normal.
