Is this normal practice?
Returned from Darwin to Melbourne in a 320 earlier this week and was a little concerned at the behaviour of the crew.
At one point in time there were 3 cabin crew and both tech crew in the cockpit with another cc in the forward loo. I think that left only one or possibly 2 others somewhere down the back. Thats 5 people in the cockpit who were all there for at least 20 to 30 mins and it occurred to me that if we had an explosive decompression (still fresh in my mind) there would have been an almighty scramble for the cc to get out of the front office, particularly interesting if the cc in the forward loo was trying to get out at the same time, blocking the cockpit exit!!:ugh: Now I know this airline prides itself on not providing any service but it seemed to me like there was way too much socialising going on with this crew throughout the entire flight. Tech crew also spent quite a lot of time socialising with cc in the cabin as well, although only one at a time or I really would have been very unhappy!!:= Am I being a killjoy or are my concerns real? Opinions from airline crew invited. Regards, BSB:} |
"for at least 20 to 30 mins "
Maybe the flight crew and cabin crew were getting better acquainted with each other! |
3 CC on the flight deck??
Is the 320 flight deck that big?? In an NG it would be real cosy :E |
not uncommon on flights out of darwin on the red eye flights. Seems the attitude is that the pax are asleep and the cc can do what they want for the 3 odd hours.....

Am I being a killjoy or are my concerns real? |
Am I being a killjoy |
you must be a closet pommie mate, get a life or get a bus.:ugh:

At one point in time there were 3 cabin crew and both tech crew in the cockpit with another cc in the forward loo. I think that left only one or possibly 2 others somewhere down the back That makes a total of 6 cabin crew. Sounds a lot? Maybe the 3 in the cockpit was the same one ... going in three times! :uhoh: |
AussieNick,
It was a daylight flight. Mattathm, Van Gough, helikiwi34, Thanks for your constructive input.:D Capt Fathom, I can count, and I know I saw 3 individual cc go in at nthe same time, drinks and food included. Not sure how many were at the back but I thought there were 5 or 6 cc in total. BSB |
Were the flightcrew female?
If they were and the flight was out of Darwin they were just showing off their brand new crocodile skin Dolce&Gabbana flight bags for the CC. :} Next time take an iPod with you if you are bored. |
Maybe it was like some of the photos I've seen floating around on facebook recently.
J*, you really need to tell your cabin crew not to post photos like that on facebook cause I'm sure it wasnt the techies that would volunteer those images. MC:8 |
Cc and duties
Blue sky
You could ask a heap of what if's, what if a bomb, what if an engine fell off. Do you ever talk to your work mates at work in there office? They train for what they are employed to do and as reported on the news Qantas and the Qantas group probally recieve some of the best raining. So sit back relax and enjoy the flight. Do you talk on your mobile phone while you drive? |
2dots
Hey Blue SB, yeah mate, get a life. If you want to be caressed during the flight then spend ya money and get a business cl. fare with someone, if ya wanna be a cheapskate and travel LCC then put up with it. The crew aren't there to parade up and down in front of you, besides, if there was an explosive decomp it's the blokes up front that'll save your miserable life in the 1st 5 minutes, not half a dozen F/A's paradiing up and down the cabin for your good mate
|
Yes you are. Catch a bus or train next time A train would be a huge step up, they pretty much are a bus service aren't they? B us passenegers are their tartget anyway. |
I'm with BSB on this one.
It's not standard practice to have everyone in the FD. Would everyone be tarting about in the FD if the CEO was on board? Gone to the dogs this industry has and you lot that condone "clowns in the mini minor" antics and then are critical of someone who questions it, need a good kick in the ar@e. bbbbbbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzbbbbbbbbbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |
I'm with Buzzy on this one.
And I really hope some of you wankers (you know who you are) don't really sit up the pointy end! Cheers |
Passengers know best :ugh: := :uhoh:

For fark's sake, you lot...
The bloke asked a simple question. If you cannot address the question then why waste bandwith bringing the person down?
The question was: Am I being a killjoy or are my concerns real? Appropriate responses would be along the lines of "this is not a concern" or "it is a genuine concern". Advice as to future modes of transport, getting a life, etc. are pointless. Some of you need to re-read your posts and stand in the mirror-room for a bit. There have been numerous major incidents around the world where, if someone aft of The Door had piped up, that flight would not have made the news. 'tis better to educate than try to show off. Dismissing anything as Passengers know best 2dots, the blokes or blokettes up front who you think will save lives, might indeed be able to do so, as long as they're not distracted and can get on the situation before it's irrecoverable. Then again, when one of them has CFIT-ed me into a smoking hole, it might be the CC who save my skin by getting me out. You are correct, The crew aren't there to parade up and down in front of you I don't think BSB was saying that he/she wanted to be caressed during the flight Further, a quick look at QF's timetable indicates that the only direct Darwin-Melbourne services operated by the Qantas group, are on Jetstar. So whether BSB wanted to be a cheapskate Pathie, I would like to think that 'Qantas group' training is as good as it gets, across the group. But after witnessing the vitriol on these boards since before Jetstar even started ops, one could be mistaken for thinking that that might not hold for all parts of the Qantas group. I'm not making an opinion, but there has been a fair bit of muck thrown around to the effect that J*-ers are substandard that some mere paying punters might start to believe what they read. |
The crew weren't French were they?
|
Yes Krusy, a great clip (and a great pair too!). I just read something about 26 Cheerleader getting stuck i n a lift. Now THAT boggles the mind:ok:
