So who is still employing? (and whos not)

Hi all,

I thought it would be interesting to hear the rumours about whats happening in the industry at the moment with regard to employment. Which airlines are recruiting and which have put it on hold.
To start the ball rolling here are the "rumours" as I've heard them:

Jetstar - Recruitment on hold till December,
Virgin - 737 recruitment on hold but still recruiting for the E-Jets,
SkyAirWorld - Recruiting for E-Jets and ERJ,
Qantas - ???,
Tiger - ???,
Air NewZealand - ???
OzJet - ???
etc...

Air NZ are interviewing strong for the rest of the year but i believe start dates are 12-24 months off.

Go to the AFAP website and search for recent advertisements.
Or go to the company websites. If they really need pilots they will put it out there. Even the arrogant ones have come to realise that nowadays they need to do this.

Was told NJS is not hiring until the end of the year due to the loss of the Rio contract in the west.

Although I did notice an ad in the Fri Australian for Dash 8 Capt & FO's for a PNG contract (was under Cobham heading).

Cheers

Beta

Any news on Qantaslink?

Not just that, rumours that four frames are heading off the register aswell

betaman - Cobham job requires PNG experience as an essential. There are not many of us left out there with the quals and with PNG experience too. Are there??

Pin Head - I am led to believe that some Direct Entry FO applications which were successful at Stage 3 are on the Chief Pilot's desk.

I read somewhere that REX don't like older applicants. :( i.e. over 32 and forget it. Any truth in that, anyone?

Green gorilla 6th Aug 2008 04:54

UFLA I got offered a REX spot two years ago nocked it back for somthing better I was 36 at the time.

Who'd you apply to Pentacle?

Night Flight 6th Aug 2008 11:26

Thats what I'd like to know. I've been applying to many companies and updating fortnightly and I'm lucky to get an automated response. Might have to start updating daily so they give me a job to stop the daily emails/letters. :}

Seems not only everyone is hiring but they're hiring anyone.
Heard a black rapper from sydney got a gig at QF.Apparently his lyrics aren't the most appropriate and proffessional:ugh:

It's been over a week since any new job was advertised on AFAP. What's the deal? Granted the postings on the 1st were plentiful but it's still a bit of a dry spell. Thoughts?

go_soaring 8th Aug 2008 02:28

Heard from a mate in VB that anyone with a start date, or interview will be keeping their appointmemnts. However, anyone who hasn't got a date wont be getting one until 2009 :(

Though, obviously not true of V Aus..

go_soaring! instead

Yusef Danet 8th Aug 2008 05:02

Soaring that may be true if the 737 fleet but the EJet still needs many more than are currently in the pipeline.

Emirates: recruitment slowing, "have enough pilots for 2008" (Tim Clark)

Mr. Hat 8th Aug 2008 06:00

recruiting end?

oil price going down vb shares going up.... and have a read of a few magazines/papers around the world and unfortunately for some managers (that were hoping for the old days of dime a dozen pilots) nothing could be further from the truth. It has slowed for the minute yes.

Its the calm before the storm.
