All pilots on individual contracts with no plans to change to eba, no pay to work on your day off plus you are not given the day back. When you are away from your base you are required to arrange your own taxi, pay for it and then claim it back once a month (can add up to $100+ per month). Tour of duties up to 16 hours.

Currently they are the lowest paid jet pilots in Australia. F100 Captains on less than $110000 Fo's less than $70000. Network and Skywest pay their Captains between $130-$140000 to fly the same aircraft.

All work is contract based, if they lose the contract you are out of a job. Most contracts are 5 to 8 years.

A large percentage of pilots are looking elsewhere with many waiting to here back from Jetstar and Virgin.

Isn't this now illegal?

Oh Jenna, sort of yes and sort of no. It'd take a month of sundays to sort out what's what while everything changes over...

Good things about the company:
(Mostly) Good guys work there
Pay on time every time
F50/F100 quite nice aeroplanes
Good bases
Engineering is second to none fantastic
Rostering department are fantastic... Always give you requested RDO's on the days you want them.
You get full pay from day 1, no training wages

Bad things about the company:
(F50) Sim is in Kuala Lumpur every 6 months
New C&T's....... (end of story)
HR leaves alot to be desired
No staff/loyalty travel benefits
Bonded for 2 years

I think all in all... if they don't start paying a little bit more and giving staff a few benefits (ie looking after them)... people will use it as a training ground/stepping stone for their next job.

Forgot to add most contracts short term maybe no chance for new FOs for upgrades.

Yes the rostering department is great and you do get your requested days off most of the time, but there are pilots (very senior on the F100) who have done the right thing by the company (ie work on their day off) and then they get scr@@ed over. In one case a pilot had to pay for his own airfare (full fare) back home, due to the company failing to stick to an agreement made.

Agree the F100 and F50 are great aircraft, Flt Ops and engineering are great, but talk to FA's and see what they had to give away to get a pay rise (and they still get paid less than regional FA's).

Most of the senior pilots refer to company as GA with jets and thats probably the best description for the company. Don't go there thinking you are in a major airline because you are not.

Remember 6 years ago there was only one jet charter operator (NJS) in Australia. Now there are 8 operators (NJS, Skywest, Skyair, Air North, Network, Ozjet, Our Airline and Alliance), plus who knows what Virgin may do with their E-jets, bidding for the same work.

Mach E Avelli 15th Aug 2008 11:13

And all of those you refer to are just GA with jets. Better get used to the concept, because it's here to stay.
