Tell em their dreaming!
Who in the world with that on their CV would ever contemplate a cruise FO job for 50 K.....but we pilots already know that I guess |

The pay for the FO is also terrible - $117k salary. You can make that as an S/O on the A330 in your 2nd year. Couldnt be much more than some of the VB 737 senior F/Os.
Even Jetstar got rid of their cruise F/Os |

What do you expect?
Integrity and patience.
|
I fail to see how someone who is signing up for the long haul with a company, in a junior position on low pay, with the hope of progression and improvement in T&C's, is showing anything but integrity and patience.
|
Chr!st almighty carbon, have a look at the PB threads. History has shown that those who believe that tripe are simply in for a reaming!
As for hope of progression. Check out the contract. you'll be a second officer for life. And make no mistake, S/O hours are virtually worthless. So if you see this "shortcut" as the answer then "Caveat Emptor". IMHO, you would be much better off taking your experience and moving up the G/A, Regional ladder. |
cant see any reply...
Hi Mate,
did you hear anything back ref your v australia senior fo post? i'm interested to know what the deal is with their interview and pay etc as well. good luck and please let me know what you learn? Thanks. |
CX DEFO based in Aust = $96 k per year. After 4 years = $117 k per year. Correct me if I'm wrong...???
So, VA seems to be better a better offer than CX. Who would have thought? Again, correct me if I'm wrong. The CRFO position is like calling a Travelodge receptionist an "international guest liason officer". Call it what it is: Second Officer. Career progressoin? 2-3 years as SO then (probably / possibly) FO with DJ, then RE-APPLY for your a positoin with VA, with past "experience" taken into account. As per a previous post, for those willing to take that money for that job CAN NEVER have the right to complain about the accomodation, meals, allowances, roster, or least of all salary. You have just contributed to lowering the standards. I have no issues about people taking the job - each to their own and I can't know every person's situation. But know what you have done. Eyes wide open people with your decision. |

So genius how does a non airline pilot get to a SO 2nd year on the 330. I smell a sky god here. Gee our industry is looking so bright . |
I suppose by being successful with his Qantas application but I'm digressing. I was reading in yesterdays' business section of the Herald Sun that Branson is casting some doubts as to if V are going to start this year now.

Let me explain my comment a bit more for you JAK
If you had a 777 rating and long haul time you would work for 50K in Sydney doing a 1000hrs a year as a cruise FO? If those T & Cs are good enough for you go for it! Now if you are working for 30K, don't have a 777 rating then maybe it might seem like a good price for your skills. And heres one back for you....:ugh: |
But how much do they charge you for a rating? I think you'd be working a long time to pay that back. And I reckon it would be a big risk for a young sprog buying one with no jet time with the way things are.
|
Hey Ozbiggles....it was the 1000hrs bit I was having a go at.
You're dead-set right about the 777rating etc bit.:ok: I was more having a nip at the status of min requirements these days that people are sneering at once sought - after jobs on a Dash8, SAAB etc....I thought you were alluding to that.:uhoh: Hard to pick subtleties in typeset. For the record, I reckon VOZ are being a bit too cute throwing out a deal like that, and as far a I'm concerned, the S.O deal sucks for most professional drivers, but I understand that we live in a free-world, and some people will take the gig in the hope it puts them in a better position further down the track. It's not my bag - but that's their business, not mine. |
So smart you guys!
I happen to know a little about this position and for some (krusty) get your facts right. God you guys give me the s%*&s with all this crap you post thinking you know everything about everything... you don't so just shut up and go back to the holes you all came out of!
