Skippers Recruitment

I see there is a huge thread on everyone leaving Skippers, :} However, my question is I am wanting to return home to Oz and wanted to know the ACTUAL minimum hours required to get employment with Skippers as an FO on the Metroliner?

Anybody in the know?

Skystar320 21st May 2008 00:17

Drop them an email yourself to find out the T & C's

troppo 21st May 2008 01:28

yeah suggest you use the Queen's English rather than Skystar's though, otherwise you may fail the test :}

Skystar320 21st May 2008 02:04

Troppo, that was a mistake made…….. to highlight a certain fact!

BrazDriver 21st May 2008 09:06

Skippers minimums.

1. Breathing.

Curvature 21st May 2008 11:33

Anyone feel like contributing with something resembling a sensible reply?????:}

Already dropped them an email..no reply. (maybe they don't want people after all)

Skystar320 21st May 2008 11:45

- check the website there are several email address you can send mail to...

I also thought the minimums were blonde & dum?

Curvature 21st May 2008 13:18

Brazdriver and Skystar320, are you current or ex employees?

I get a feeling you like Skippers as much as you would like a poke in the eye? :ouch:

I have sent emails to various people on the list, I was just after a realistic minimum hours figure from people who may know.

Skippers has always had a 'reputation', even from the early days when they operated out of the Flight Centre, so it seems nothing has changed.

I ask again in vain? Anybody....

Skystar320 21st May 2008 22:02

Nope never worked for Skippers, though their operations are always of interested to us....

My blonde comment was scarcasm......

Skippers minimum's

Curvature

Skippers will hire fresh CPL's with MECIR if they pay for thier Metro endo. For this they are charging the poor naive sods 35K.

So the answer to your question is yes, they will hire just about anyone who is willing to pay for thier endo.

No I don't, nor have I ever worked for them (Skippers). Yes my info is based on hearsay and comments made by Skippers FO's who gained employment in the company by doing exactly what I have stated above.

Hope that helps.

Curvature 22nd May 2008 01:08

Thankyou Crank1000.

35K seems an awful lot for a Metro endorsement!

Do you know if they log PIC when it is their sector/leg?

vee tail 22nd May 2008 09:16

Curvature why do you only wan metro, they also have bras and dash.
Much better gig on those.
Believe bras highest paid in Australia ( waiting for bashing, helmet armed )
Skippers only crap if you wanna get caught with the whingers, simple do your job and go home.:ok:
Minimums are very low, same as the rest of oz.
Some FO's have 1500 ish with 150 multi. This is where you can fly metro PIC as no ATPL req'd .
Yep no ATPL. And they arent the only ones doing this

KRUSTY 34 22nd May 2008 11:48

Not if it's an M23 on RPT you can't!

If Skippers operate the earlier mark on charter, then I will stand corrected on that one.

Lefthanded_Rock_Thrower 22nd May 2008 12:14

This old gem again, Veetail, is this correct ?, operating an aircraft with a MTOW above 5700kg's IFR in the Charter and RPT Category with a CPL as the PIC ?, who's in the RH seat then ?.

What of the contractual minimums for the mines ?.

TurboOtter 22nd May 2008 22:42

That's not too bad, I hear there's a metro driver on the East coast doing charter, Captain, no ATPL,(Which isn't required for charter) and when cleared to line had about 800 total time! and around 50 hours or so multi!! And he's on single pilot work!

vee tail 23rd May 2008 00:58

Lefty Affirm.....

Two operators are operating like this and nope no RPT aloud.
Awesome opportunity I reckon for those who fit wish the time and place was around earlier.
Not sure of the Marks on the metro other than on the seats:E

Rubbery rules

I thought you had to have an ATPL to act as PIC for charter or RPT in anything above 5700kg.
But they do seem to be rubbery rules.

the wizard of auz 23rd May 2008 12:04

There are exemptions available for the above 5700KG problems. No ATPL required for charter. I thought the Metro was under 5700KG.....but I was wrong once before. ;)

flightidleflat 23rd May 2008 14:28

Bit of a "grandfather clause" here as far as CASA are concerned. The original FAA and Aus Metro 23 Certification was based on the older Metro II's and III's, which were under 5700kg. The authorities effectively considered it as the same aircraft, just better performing (ie greater MTOW) and dramatically improved systems.

Similar situation with the BAE Jetstream's I believe.

OpsNormal 23rd May 2008 23:37

I do not know what the Metro II weighs but the Metro III weighs-in at 6577kg MTOW for the "light" version and 6804kg for the "heavy" version. I have never flown a Metro 23 but understand the MTOW to be around the 7257kg mark.

So Wiz yer weren't wrong - just not quite on the money this time?:}

I think some of you might be jumping at shadows - RPT above 5700kg requires an ATPL to act in the capacity as the PIC, however there is no requirement to hold an ATPL to log ICUS to gain the requisite hours in the multi column to satisfy the CASA requirements to eventually upgrade - as long as the hours being flown are recorded as such in either the Trip/Deck log and both pilots' log books and they are operating under direction of the Chief Pilot and within the parameters of the Operations Manual. It is that simple.:ok:

Though to add fuel to the fire - CASA has never filed a difference to ICAO on this one so they have effectively left themselves wide open to any operation that wishes to challenge CASA's stance on this issue...... anyone taking notes....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

We all are well aware that there are some in this industry who would have their colleagues believe that they are "legally" operating as the PIC (and some are even silly enough to enter these hours as PIC in their logbook) when in fact they are not.:=:=

The less said about them the better.... :oh::oh:

Munt: The latest I am aware of is around $8-9K, but I guess that most operators have to fly and accommodate their aircrews in Melbourne for the "almost" three week event at the SIM center.:hmm:
