A Better Bonanza? FTDK?

Dem flying planes are cheap in the US. Given dead economy, and great AUD exchange rates...

Ebay FTDK

Annnd for the FTDK ...

If you are into gadgets and having every conceivable instrument in your bird, this is the bird for you......a LOT of time, care, and MONEY have gone into this panel.

Again, if you wonder, "why all the avionics".....my answer is simple.....on a dark and stormy night, How much is your life worth?

I really like the sound of the 'Nexrad'...:ok:

You're right Dogimed, there are some real bargains over there. Bo's seem to have taken a real hit. There are later ones with better times and good gear for around that money. But don't forget how much it costs to get one here and get it on the register - could easily add $35K and there's GST on the whole lot...

Here's another 'bargain'-probably these old twins are only worth sending to the knackers yard now - which is probably where they were due some time ago.

(The guy does say he can get it ferried! Not sure he meant this far!:O- rather him!)

Some of us have to do a bit of work occassionally Jaba!
Been pedaling the 210 again - to the Tableland.

Nope - I have no interest in a turbocharged aircraft.

I kinda like the one I have - apart from the broken spar (see Capt F's post in the Photos thread!)

PS: Is it just me, or is there a bit of a smell about that ad?

Dr K, for a moment I believed you when you said you were working... then mere nanoseconds later I read you're off flying again:ok:

:eek::eek:

How long has it been broken? Please dont tell me if the answer will scare me

The 'Too-good-to-be-true' caution light certainly flickered a little when I read it.

But if the aircraft indeed fits the description, gotta say I'm sorely tempted.....

Hi Doc

Just out of interest, why don't you like turbo charged aircraft?

Dogimed 30th Apr 2008 09:20

I doubt the ad wouldn't be genuine. Given people in the US must be liquidating assets to cover investment shortfalls.

There are plenty on that website. Nice Citabria started at 29k I think.

I wonder how much it would cost to bag n tag it and freight it over.

ABX - for the sort of flying I do, I just cannot convince myself that turbocharging is worth the additional expense maintenance wise, the increased chance of untimely maintainance, or the extra cost in fuel.

I generally fly 8-10,000', occassionally going up to 12 or so to stay on top of summer Cu. The few occassions I have gone above 12, I have had to replace the cannula type O2 mask with a full face O2 mask in order to maintain my O2 saturation above 90%, and I don't particularly like wearing the full face (nose and mouth) O2 masks.

Having flown a normally aspirated C182RG and a turbo-charged C182RG, I found that below 10,000' the turbo was no faster but used 10L/hr more than the normally aspirated one.

My IO520 powered V35B will climb to 10,000' in 10 to 12 min at the sort of weights I normally operate at, and FL150 in about 20 min. At 10,000', 2300 rpm/21" gives a TAS of 162 kts at 55 L/hr - gives me 5 and a bit hours endurance, so 3.5 to 4 hr legs with good IFR reserves.

An IO520/550 powered Bonanza/210/Mooney/whatever will do everything I require - so why bother with a turbo?

Dogimed - its costs about US$30k to bring an aeroplane in from the States and put it on the Oz register!
