Fire Spotting
 

Does anyone have any info, even the slightest detail on what a job as a fire spotter is like>? Good and bad experiences? A typical day?

Can't tell you anything recent, but 35 years ago it was great fun, meant loads of flying, and life down in the southwest - Manjimup, Nannup, and Walpole for me.

Now, 20,000 plus hours later, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

What do You want to know mate?
Season runs over the summer bush fire season. Bases are currently Dwellingup, Bunbury, Manjimup. 8 scouts are used. Pay is award. Most of the new pilots had started with fresh CPL min hrs and some tail time. They start recruiting about September. There will be several spots open for next yr I'm guessing.

They provide line training to get you up to speed and learn their systems.

It's very basic flying with alot of map reading they use there own map system. You can expect anything from 3 - 6 hr flying a day.

Typical day wander into the office at 9.30 am do the paperwork once your worksheet for the area you are covering is issued kick the tyres and go flying in your alloted times park up then go home thats about it.
