F111 replacement - Boeing B1R
After a night in front of the box watching Pearl Harbour. It strikes home to me that we should all learn some lessons. We must be prepared. We must have an effective deterent.
The ONLY replacement for the F111 is the B1R. Able to deliver 30,000 kg of ordinance as far away as Beijing un-refueled. Its not being prevocative, its called being prepared and carrying a very big stick. As the saying goes, Those who forget the past are bound to relive it. Edit: Only using Beijing as an axample of operating radius. lets say....anywhere to the north. |
on the way to Jet blast.....
Guptar, you watch a bad movie and suddenly you want to bomb Beijing... yeah, I can relate to that. I've got a pair of black leather motor bike jack boots... every time I put them on I feel like invadeing Poland.... |
Guptar, you watch a very, very bad movie I agree though that it would be a very big stick. I had a fairly close look at a standard B1 at the recent Singapore Airshow - very impressive. When I enquired about how much room the crew members had, the USAF rep said, "Just enough for the four crew to squeeze into their seats - this aircraft is built to deliver a big load, not to party in". |
The art of Destroying your credibility.
Lesson 1. After a night in front of the box watching Pearl Harbour |
Yep, the B1 does a great flypast too, suitable replacement.:D

Perhaps the evolution of the F22 Raptor that is being proposed might be the go. its been mooted that a lengthened 2 seat version of the Raptor with a significantly larger internal weapons bay could be built. As it is, block 40 Raptors are slated to superseed the F-15E.
There are some serious proposals to sell the Raptor to Japan as they are a trusted nation. Surely we aussies must have a higher level of trust by the Americans than Japan. |
Yep, the B1 does a great flypast too, suitable replacement. Have to consider ALL the important stuff. :} |
So why would the F-22 need two seats so it can drop bombs?
To take Kopp for a spin at the next airshow? |
Felt it at RIAT in Fairford a couple of times. Dump and burn not required, just 540KTS.

Outsource it to the Yanks
If we outsourced the bombing of our neighbours to the North to the Yanks that would solve the F111 problem.
Say $3M per big bomb delivered within 24hrs, and $2M for 48hours You could also contract for smaller bombs at an ad-hoc rate - with a minimum gaurantee of 1 bomb per year. That way - we don't care what equipment they use - and our near neighbours would have their suspisions about us being The Deputy Sherriff confirmed once and for all. |
Lead Balloon, I love the idea. I'm sure the Yanks would be more than happy to come drop some bombs for us. You should get a job with the government outsource everything, maybe the country would run a little better then!
Just a pitty to see the F111 go. Such a classic! Love watching them fly... |
Everyone knows that Australia is too far away from most of our likely agressors. It's just too far for them to travel! Gone are the days of sneaking down the west coast in a ship or submarine. A couple of Mustangs would do the job.
